Objective

After a very successful run launching several young careers via our very own TB Recommends program, we have spent the past few months seeking out ways to expand on the idea of what most writers seek in a screenwriting competition – a chance to launch a career and succeed at what they love. And, after several months of conversations with the agents, managers, producers and executives that make up our community and judges panel, we believe we’ve found an excellent expansion to what we set out to do here at TB. We’ve designed a new contest that will not only allow our finalists and winners to be read by the top-tier reps, producers and execs in town, but that will also create a new platform to promote and launch their careers.

Deadline/Entry Fees

Expired. Previous Deadline: 09/21/2016

Awards

Our grand prize winner will be broadcast across the industry, the site, our partnering sites, and will be mailed to our exclusive mailing list of over 15,000 people, our industry insider list of over 5,500 people, and will be sent individually to agents, managers, executives and producers well beyond our judges panel. TB will do everything in the power to promote you, your work, and your career.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL.

Aside from winning the ultimate prize, we are very proud to announce two more additions to this competition. For an additional $25, each entrant will have the option to select the “Station3? or “Dark Factory” competition prize, or for the discounted rate of $40, they can select both. This is not a requirement, but instead, another opportunity. Writers may also choose to enter both additional competitions.

THE STATION3 PRIZE

For an additional $25, your script will automatically be read, and you the writer, automatically considered for representation at the very hot up-and-coming management firm Station3. At the end of the contest, Station3 will announce one winner, who they will then guarantee representation. Keep in mind, aside from being the management/production company with the most writers on the 2012 “Young & Hungry List”, Station3 just doubled in size, and now represents some of the biggest names in film & television. Most recently their clients have set up shows at Fremantle, FTVS, UCP, Relativity, Showtime, Vuguru, and are now developing shows with the likes of Mike Tollin, Dan Harmon, and Shonda Rhimes.

THE DARK FACTORY PRIZE

For an additional $25, your script will automatically be read by the executive staff at the hot new genre-oriented production company Dark Factory, and one screenplay will be selected for an option or purchase to be made into a feature length film. In order to win this prize the screenplay MUST fit into the thriller, action-thriller, or horror category, with a budget under $30 million dollars. At least one winning script will be selected and Dark Factory will negotiate a deal with the writer to buy or option the screenplay, with the minimum of a 1-year – $5,000 option. Dark Factory executives are currently in production on several different films, including the “Young & Hungry List” writer Zak Olkewicz’s upcoming “Storage”, the Mexican breakout hit “Malaventura”, the Morbido Fest award-winning film “Untitled Horror Project”, the sequel to “Kilometer 31?, and an upcoming slate of 5 films with Original Entertainment.

Tracking Board Names Launch Pad Winners

Charlie Neubauer's The Shell has been named the Overall Winner of the 2016 Launch Pad Feature Competition. The script, described as MINORITY REPORT meets TRANSCENDENCE is a sci-fi thriller:

In a future where death has been eradicated thanks to a revolutionary technology that allows people to be resurrected, a petty criminal is tasked with solving the seemingly impossible murder of its inventor - his mother.

The top drama in this year's contest was Dan Hall's Submerged, about a group of plane crash survivors trapped in a shrinking air pocket deep beneath the ocean's surface. The top comedy was Derby City, by Alexis Perkins, described as SAVED meets LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, about a bartender (and small-time con artist) fleeing a criminal gambling charge who convinces a naive Mormon missionary to drive across country with her. When their truck and money are stolen, they have to resort to hustling pool in order to make it to Utah.

One of this year's finalists, Pete Barry's Marian, had already sold to Sony after a bidding war. The project will star Margot Robbie as Maid Marian, who, after Robin Hood is killed, must take on his mantle in order to avenge his murderer and save England from a secret French invasion.
