Objective

The Pulsar Sci-Fi Screenplay Contest is an international screenplay contest dedicated exclusively to Sci-Fi.

Our promises to each entrant:

Your screenplay will be read by someone who loves Sci-Fi. With other contests, Sci-Fi scripts are often viewed in a lesser light than traditional material such as drama. At Pulsar, we love Sci-Fi!

Rules

  • Only original work can be submitted. The work must be the sole property of the applicant(s). Optioned work is not permitted.
  • Collaborative work is acceptable provided there are no more than two writers. Each writer must agree to contest entry. Any cash prize awarded to a collaborative team will be split equally between each writer (please provide each writer's email address).
  • Modifications/changes/new drafts etc of submitted work are only acceptable if accompanied by a new entrance fee. Entrants agree and accept that their story, original idea or concept could already be being developed independently in Hollywood or elsewhere. Pulsar and its readers will not steal your material (or idea/concept) but unfortunately we need to protect ourselves against such suits and claims. Consequently, the entrant agrees and accepts that Pulsar and its readers are in no way responsible (now or in the future) of borrowing or stealing from an idea, concept and/or story line from your contest entry. We encourage every entrant to follow the industry practice and ensure their scripts are registered with either the Writers Guild of America or the Library of Congress Copyright office.
  • Entry fees are nonrefundable.
  • Entrants must submit under their real names, pen names are not allowed.
  • It is the responsibility of prize winners to pay whatever taxes may be due on their prize. Cash prizes will be awarded without tax deducted.

Accepted screenplay format

All scripts must be in English and no more than 120 pages. A maximum script length of 110 pages is recommended. All scripts must be in PDF format and conform to the industry standard for spec screenplays.

Please include a title page (screenplay title, author name(s) and contact email address(s)) with your submission.

Eligibility

Professional screenwriters are ineligible.Screenplays based on an existing book/play/film or other existing material are only eligible if they are the entrant's original work and the entrant maintains copyright. The only exception to this rule relates to the Existing Series Sci-Fi TV Teleplay contest category in which case established characters, technology etc from the series can be used in your script entry.

Screenplays based on historical events are eligible provided the information is in the public domain and the entrant does not violate copyrighted material or another author's work.

Optioned work is not eligible.

Awards

A cash prize of $1000 will be awarded for the best Sci-Fi movie screenplay, $250 for the best original Sci-Fi TV pilot and $250 for the best existing series Sci-Fi TV show teleplay.
