We actively push the Semifinalists, Finalists, Runners-Up and Winners for a full year with the intention of creating opportunities for the writers. We are a hands on competition because we feel it is important to continue supporting the top scripts beyond the cash and prizes.
We are proud to present the competition with Write Brothers, a company that not only provides the necessary tools for writing but is an advocate and true supporter of emerging writers.
Also, we are supported by the Writers Guild of America west and the Writers Guild of Canada.

An interview with Mark Andrushko regarding the Scriptapalooza Writing Competition.
Q: Who sponsors this contest, and what is their background in the industry? When was the contest founded?A: The competition is sponsored by Write Brothers, the leading software for screenwriters.
Scriptapalooza was founded in 1998 with the goal of helping as many writers as possible through the competition. The participants that are involved are production companies and literary representatives that are eager to be introduced to new voices. Past participants have included A Band Apart, Samuel Goldwyn Films, and Disney, just to name a few. A complete list of participants is on Scriptapalooza’s website. We are a “hands on” competition because we feel it is important to continue supporting the top 13 scripts (3 winners and 10 runners-up) beyond the cash and prizes.
A: I'm the President of Scriptapalooza. I handle all the 60 production companies, agents and managers that read all the material that comes in. Basically, I overlook everything on a daily basis.
Q: Have any of the winning scripts from the contest been sold or produced?A: Yes, too many to list here, but here's a few.
Our 3rd place winner, Robert Gelber from 2004 sold to Level 1 Entertainment for low-against mid-six figures.
We have optioned over 50 scripts and have gotten hundreds of writers agents, managers and meetings.
Actually the best thing for a writer to do is to go to our website and look under the link called HEADLINES.
A: All the reading is done by over 60 producers, managers and agents. They come to us asking for material and this is how they get involved.
These people in development should be reading these scripts, they are in the decision making, not you and I...it's completely pointless if a reader/intern/hired help is reading the script.
Scriptapalooza brings the script right to the source, the people that can either buy, option or sell your script.
A: Our judges do read the entire script because they have to fill out an one-sheet to give back to us on the script.
Q: Are the judges looking for any specific type of script? Are scripts of a certain genre more likely to do well?A: We deal with so many judges that we cover all the genres. We do have certain judges that only want comedies or horror...and we cater to them.
Q: What do you do promote your winning writers, and to publicize their scripts?A: Scriptapalooza is unique because we promote the winning scripts for an entire year. Also, we promote the Semifinalists and above, meaning if you're a Scriptapalooza semifinalist, your logline will be sent to all our contacts...everyone. So, if you win 1st place or if your a semifinalist you pretty much get the same exposure.
We work for the writer, period.
A: Make sure your script is in screenplay format and please make sure you submit your best script possible. Also, remember that Scriptapalooza gets thousands of scripts each year and this competition is very difficult, it's not easy to win. It's very competitive.
