Marco Island Film Festival Internship Program Attracts Local, National, International Students
June 18, 2001 -- Marco Island, FL: A thriving internship program with the Marco Island Film Festival has students from throughout the region, the United States and the world coming to Southwest Florida for educational opportunities.
The film festival, in its fourth year, offers internships throughout the year, with more opportunities in the summer as the October event approaches. Internship opportunities are available in different areas such as event planning, marketing, communications, management, business, computer research, and fund raising.
This year, interns have come from as far away as Mexico and the Netherlands, and as near as Florida Gulf Coast University. The length of the internship varies based on the student’s availability, with a minimum commitment of three months required.
According to Pat Berry, Executive Director of the Marco Island Film Festival, the internships are a win-win situation for both festival and student. “We value the interns’ abilities, and their willingness to jump right in and do whatever needs done,” says Berry. “In turn, they get valuable work experience with a growing film festival, opportunities to interact with professionals from the film industry, and college credit for their efforts.”
The internships are non-paying, but the festival provides housing in rental units on Marco Island, and arranges with the student’s college for academic credit to be earned for the internships.
