Contest News

Waterfront Film Fest Announces Contest Winner

Chris Dancy's The Undertaker's Son has been named the winner of the 2010 Waterfront Screenplay Competition.

THE UNDERTAKER'S SON is a belated coming-of-age comedy about a man in his thirties who is forced to return to his home town and take over the family funeral home business. Bill Bailey struggles to reconnect with old friends and the community he left behind, and finds a budding romance with the recently-widowed ex-wife of his high school nemesis. Bill always thought he had life figured, but it's not until he is forced to spend the bulk of his time dealing with death that he truly learns how to live.

Chris is a student at the University of Michigan where he is working towards his MBA at the prestigious Ross School of Business. He has supplemented his business curriculum with coursework in screenwriting at the university's Screen Arts & Cultures program. THE UNDERTAKER'S SON, which is Chris's first completed screenplay, was also recognized with a Hopwood Award at the University of Michigan, one of the oldest and most celebrated series of writing prizes in the country. In addition to his writing and his studies, Chris works as an Executive Recruiter at Robert Gariano Associates. Chris is especially proud of his work on projects in the area of Education and the Arts with such institutions as the Chicago Foundation for Education, the Dolores Kohl Education Foundation, and the Piven Theatre Workshop. Chris currently resides in Plymouth, Michigan with his wife Joan and their daughter Emily.

Congratulations as well to finalists Adam Kline (ITHACA) and John Bengel (VOYEUR) and semifinalists George Ferris (BEYOND THE HORIZON); Sean Jourdan (THE BEEKEEPER); Jill Jaress (THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT); John Lewis (THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS); Aaron Brzezina (NOT PHIL); Stacy Walsh (RIPPLE EFFECT); and Kevin Brodie (SEASON OF MISTS).
