judi Blaze View This Topic MY SCRIPT ADVICE TO YOU

Wow! It sounds like all doom and gloom to me. I don't think like that and I truly hope all of you amateur screenwriters pass over his comments. Think positive. Law of Attraction, whatever it takes; you will succeed!!

judi Blaze View This Topic Rate contests accountability and reliability

Some contests actually take a year. After powering through the 1st rounders, 2nd rounders and on and on, it still takes months to get to the end. In fact, in between, the competition administrators ask for re submissions, pay an extra fee so you can enter a more well polished script. So, now it is over a year. I won't mention any names because I see it so often.

Rather than worry about how many contests are like this and if they would leave if you gave them any slack, why not disqualify them from the beginning, there will always be more organizers listing contests and putting them on this site. I don't see a shortage of them in the near future.

For my own self, I refuse to enter a contest again if I have had this experience. If more people did that, these particular contests would wither.

Here! Here! It seems like we have to beg for results. Or they extend deadlines and often try to get you to resubmit your entry (for a fee of course) for a chance at getting a better slot in the ultimate end results.

I agree Dee Dee. There really is no need for all the hoopla with the hundreds and hundreds of first rounders, hundreds of second etc. And then ask for more money for a chance to re-do you script right in the middle of the competition is ludicrous. I should be happy to have made it to quarter finalist, but can't get too happy when you see how many others have been chosen as well.

What has happened to The American Gem competition? Has anyone heard anything? This contest has been going on forever, from 1st rounder, 2nd rounder, quarter (which I am) and on and on and on. Why does a contest have to do this? From now on I will not engage in a competition that takes months and months to announce winners.

Has anyone heard anything about American Gem? I entered quite awhile ago, made it to round 2 and have never heard a word since.

Haven't heard anything else from American Gem regarding second rounders. Anyone else?

My short script has made it to first round in the American Gem Screenplay Competition. So, they may be slow at getting back to screenwriters, but in the end they picked many scripts and got back to everyone.

Yes, I saw that too. They may have wanted to change it on their contest site.

I agree. It's bad enough we have to wait for the deadline, and then have the deadline extended, and then wait for results. Whew!

Has anyone who has entered the American Gem competition heard anything about winning results? I haven't seen anything about it.

judi Blaze View This Topic What to do when a filmmaker wants to option a short

I know that shorts are not high money scripts, but I just have some questions.
I'm a little new at this. I've read some about option agreements and see that they are either money up front, or deferred. I have a filmmaker who is interested in optioning my short, hasn't given me an option agreement, but I gather he is leaning toward the deferred side. So, I don't know what to expect.

Also, on another note he wants me to write a feature script for him. I really don't know what to expect there. Does anyone know if there is money up font when asked to write a lengthy script. As a ghost writer, it would always be money up front. Anyhow, any help is appreciated.
Thanks Judi

judi Blaze View This Topic Amazon making movies but...

There are a lot of reason, at least for me, to pass on the Amazon movie thing. If you really start looking at the small print, there are a lot of things they can do to your script. If you put it out to the public, there are a lot of things everyone can do to your script. Just saying, it make me pass on it.
