Scriptrep.com has a contest deadline coming up. Any insights?
I didn't enter the first one because it was new and I wasn't comfortable with the release form. But I'm considering it this time. The price is very reasonable and the prize seems worthwhile. The site seems very professional with lots of good info.
Any news about the winners and runners-up?

Hi Paula,
This probably isn't the best place to post this, but here I go-- I've noticed a number of your posts Paula and I was wondering, how many scripts have you written? Have you had any luck querying producers or agents?
I just sent a number of queries to lit agents-- if it's anything similar to contacting lit agents for novels, I imagine it's a little like a shot in the dark.
Have you ever entered the Monterey Bay Screenwriting contest? I'm just about ready to send off my script and I'd like to know if any others have had any good feedback or luck with this contest.

Yeah, I guess I do have a tendency to run at the fingers. I've written 6. Three are polished. One I'm trying to get around to do my second draft on (it's not my usual genre so it's hard). The others are going to stay on the disc for awhile.
I've utilized the Venice Arts but no sale yet.
My scripts range from comedy to thriller and are in the PG13-R range. I'm lucky I've placed in as many as I have since my scripts lean toward the more commercial.
I've not entered the Monterey contest. I got the impression they were looking for more of a family-oriented type script and I only have one of those and it needs a rewrite.
Hope this helps. You are welcome to send me an email if you have any other questions.

I was a finalist in last year's Monterey and my script was decidedly UNfamily oriented. No requests or inquiries resulted from my placing, but that will sadly be the case (usually) with every contest except for the top three or four. Good luck with yours though. Jay

I was a semifinalist in Monterey a few years back for my screenplay "Sex and Violence." I guess it goes without saying it is NOT family fare.
The Monterey winner told me he was getting calls from production companies for the first time in the 20 or so years he'd been writing, so it helped him.
I got one read from a low-budget indie looking to do his first feature. He turned it down but we became friends. He never did raise the money for the feature.

PS Jay: I’ve been copying your posts! Copying them and selling them to producers for unimaginable sums of money! HA HA HA HA HA... (evil laugh).

Yes Bob, I've been suspecting that for some time now.
