Topic: PINCH ENTERTAINMENT???????

Author: Orlanda Szabo Posted: 08/23/02 02:07 AM

Does anyone know the story on Pinch? They're asking for Canadain writers. And that makes me a little nervous.

Pinch Ent. is listed here in the writers wanted. It says the owner took her film training in Toronto.

I have a few scripts that fit their requirements and just want to make sure before I query.

Have a good one.

Hi

I sent a script to Shelley at Pinch and recieved an email saying she loved it and wanted to see what else I had done.

Great!

Two days later she changes her mind and says no thanks. Apparently her collegues weren't as enthusiastic.

I was not impressed.

You might want to go over to Done Deal (www.scriptsales.com) and read the column by April Hamilton -- I forget what she calls it. April was a client of Shelly's till recently. You might even be able to ask her questions on there.

I'm repped by Shelley and Pinch. Shelley is originally from Canada and has contacts at studio/production co.'s in both the US and Canada. I have nothing but great things to say about her and the company. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me.

Shelley and Pinch are legit. That doesn't mean someone can't still have a bad experience with them of course, but they are for real.

Thanks guys, that helps a lot.

Miriam - I'll check out scriptsales.com as well. I can't believe I didn't think of that myself.

Hang on, hmmm it's 85F so it can't be brain freeze. Must be a brain stall then, don't you hate when that happens.

Thomas, Miriam, Bryan and Doug - Thanks again.

Have a good one.

She asked for a script of mine, then emailed later saying that I was a great writer and wanted to talk to me. I gave her my phone number and told her the best time to call. She called at the wrong time, when I was at work, and didn't leave a number to call her back. I tried emailing her back a few times but she won't return the emails. Go figure?

I guess it's a good thing I'm a full time stay at home writer then.

I'll query on Monday and see what happens.

Have a good one.

Huh!

I queried her back in June I think and again in July with another script and nothing nada from her, even though I am also a fellow Canadian.

I know that doesn't mean anything but a 'no thanks not interested' would have been nice.

What was her turnaround time with you guys?

Author: Bryan Walsh Posted: 08/27/02 02:37 PM

When I sent her my initial e-query, she got back to me within a week. After I sent her my script, again I heard from her about a week later. I asked her how many queries she gets; she said most days she gets at least a hundred, so she's very selective, just like any other agent/manager is.

Author: Bryan Walsh Posted: 08/27/02 02:39 PM

If you are sending e-queries, make sure they have a great hook and they are commercially viable.

Author: Orlanda Szabo Posted: 08/29/02 02:45 AM

Well, I've queried Shelly with a dramedy/adventure and an action/comedy.

Time to get back to work on my latest action/__________. I'll fill it in when I get to the finale'.

Have a good one.

Hey Gang:

I just got a request for two of my scripts from Barry Katz Entertainment Group. Has anyone out there had any dealings with them?

Sincerely,

Mel Nieves

Hey Mel

Go to google.ca and do a search for Barry Katz Ent. Group. You'll find that this is a great find. He is out of New York and has some great credits.

Best of luck.

Just wanted to bump this one up for PJ

Author: PJ McIlvaine Posted: 10/03/02 03:18 PM

Bryan,

Thanks, I had seen these and wondered if anyone who is repped by them had more recent experience to share.

Author: Bryan Walsh Posted: 10/03/02 04:35 PM

PJ,

I've been with Pinch for about eight months now. Things are going great; my first script that was sent out was received well, but didn't sell. I have one I'm working on right now that I expect to sell. I know this sounds egotistical or naive, but it's a very original, commercial concept, so if it doesn't sell, I don't know what the hell I'm gonna do. I guess I'll take some time off and re-evaluate my goals. If it doesn't sell, it's no fault of Pinch; everyone there has been great to me.

Hope this helps.
