Topic: ... or . . .

Somebody told me when you use...for an ellipsis, you've got to space it . . .

I like it the first way and don't see that it should make much difference. Does it?

Drum roll and the correct answer is... the first one.

Sondra,

Depending on your word processor, the ellipsis (sp?) points may do weird things.

MS Word's got a pretty dumb automatic spelling correction tool (that drives a lot of new users ape sh*t), one of the things it does is deleting repeted chatacters (... being one of them).

If you're NOT using Word, and your program doesn't overwrite either of them...it's a matter of personal preference.

Technically speaking and by definition, an ellipsis should be spaced -- . . .

But practically speaking, few people care, as it has become an acceptable practice (out of sheer laziness, I suppose) to eliminate the spacing.

In other words, don't sweat the small stuff -- and ellipses are *really* small stuff!(s?)

Yeah, I knew it was really small...and I'd pretty much decided to do it the way I wanted, anyway...but when somebody corrected my spacing...well... I decided to check it out.

Thanks for the replies.
