Topic: Screenwriting Expo

Anyone in this? According to WAB announcement was coming out today.

Contest manager told a DDPer it would come out 'later this week.'

Some nice prizes.

Author: Helmann Wilhelm Posted: 10/02/09 01:04 AM

Yeah, I'm in it as well, but I haven't heard anything yet...sucks, too because I've been waiting for this one for a while now!

Author: Stephen Hoover Posted: 10/02/09 01:07 AM

It's posted on WithoutABox as October 1st. But a DoneDealPro member emailed the contest coordinator and was informed "by the end of the week" (Sunday?) something would be up on the site or emailed.

Author: Bobbette Findley Posted: 10/02/09 01:30 AM

They extended the original late deadline for it, so I didn't expect them to make the original announcement date either.

Author: Irin Evers Posted: 10/02/09 10:44 AM

It just silly because they make it tougher and tougher to attend. There's no reason the deadline can't be a little earlier with announcements a month before the Expo - giving those who place more time to make arrangements to attend. At this point, have pitch tickets already gone on sale? If I place, I'd like to pitch - why make that difficult? Should I even attend if I place high in the contest, but all the picth slots are already filled? You know what I mean?

Author: Stephen Hoover Posted: 10/02/09 10:49 AM

Good point, Irin.

There's one contest I'm in that has a free pass as the award and the winner is announced during the festival. ?? Some nice prizes for the Expo contest though.

BTW, PAGE allowing the updated draft of a script for the finals was extremely helpful. Wish the other contests would do that!

Last I heard, the winners, semis and quarterfinalists --

Will be disclosed -- "Early October"

This information came from Pasham.

All at once? That's new. About a 7-10 day window then.

Author: Heather Hughes Posted: 10/03/09 02:23 PM

Irin,

I'll be there for one day. If you go let's have coffee. I need to see some new baby pictures.

Heather

Author: Irin Evers Posted: 10/03/09 09:49 PM

It would be great to meet up, Heather. I'll need a script to do well to convince the pregnant wife.

Author: Stephen Hoover Posted: 10/04/09 04:00 PM

QFs announced tomorrow (Monday) as per contest director.

Author: Irin Evers Posted: 10/04/09 05:20 PM

Just QFs though? A week and a half from the Expo?

Author: Stephen Hoover Posted: 10/04/09 06:06 PM

This was posted on DoneDealPro:

Hello Everyone,

The Quarter Finalist for the 2009 EXPO have been chosen. We will be sending out an e-blast on Monday Oct 5th with the list of the winners.

Sorry for the delay and thanks for your patience!

Warm regards,

Pasha

Maybe tomorrow...? :(

Author: Nick Stoli Posted: 10/05/09 11:27 PM

What's going on with this contest? Some of the posters at the Contest Comments section seem to imply that scores are given out. Really?

Be that as it may..,if they have the list of QTs, why don't they post it on their site? To say nothing of sending out a mass e-mail.

Suffice it to say, this is the last time I'm entering this contest.

Author: Bobbette Findley Posted: 10/06/09 12:14 AM

Nick, I don't think anyone has heard anything. It's said they would announce today, which means they have until 11:59pm.

Author: Nick Stoli Posted: 10/06/09 12:58 AM

Hi Bobbette,

If they already have the list, why not post it or send it out? Seems odd.

What's really gettting me are these comments, http://www.moviebytes.com/ContestDetail.cfm?CommentsTab=TRUE&ContestNumber=558

Perhaps all the posters have grudges, but I doubt it. It doesn't seem a well run contest at all.

Author: Bobbette Findley Posted: 10/06/09 02:47 AM

Nick,

I saw those comments and everyone is asking if anyone has heard anything. I agree that if they have the winners, semi-finalists and finalists already that they just need to post them. I want to blame extending the late deadline, but can't because they're holding onto those names like the devil is afterm the information. Darn them!!!

BTW, I washed out of the Atlanta Film Festival. Got a nice email today saying the usual : a lot of entries....great caliber...can only pick 12 finalist....blah..blah..blah. I wonder if it were set in ATL if that would have helped. Oh, well. Onward and upward!!!

I also joined TriggerStreet and did my first screenplay review. The story was great and I enjoyed it, but the format was atrocious. I got such a headache reading it and was annoyed that someone would care so little for the craft as to not learn the proper format. I have my second one on my desktop and I'll do that tomorrow.

13 minutes to 11:59!!!!

Author: Helmann Wilhelm Posted: 10/06/09 02:49 AM

I don't think they're going to post anything today. Hopefully tomorrow.

Author: Stephen Hoover Posted: 10/06/09 10:20 AM

Re: TriggerStreet.

You are allowed to remove scripts on your assigned reading list. Think it's one a day or every few days you can take off. Usually weed through the 'no hope' scripts and get to the people making a genuine effort.

I'm ToddH99 on there if you visit the discussion boards.

Author: Jage Halperin Posted: 10/06/09 10:56 AM

Pasha e-mailed me yesterday saying they SHOULD be posted today. I hope so.

Author: Bobbette Findley Posted: 10/06/09 01:45 PM

Stephen,

I know I can delete the assignment, but if someone doesn't tell those not writing correctly to get a screenwriter's bible or go to www.storysense.com for format help, who will. I only delete if I don't like the genre. The first one I did was a crime story, ala the British gangster style, which I enjoy. This one is a sci-fi fantasy, another genre I enjoy. I tried to start it last night, but this writer has CLOSE UP and POV and I only got to the third page. Sweet heavens!!! I gotta tell this dude to stop directing. I'm easy to recognize on trigger as I'm beans_22206@yahoo.com (my email)

Bobbette

Author: Bobbette Findley Posted: 10/06/09 01:52 PM

Jage,

I'll believe it when I see it!! Lies, I tell you, Lies!! hahahaha!!!

Author: Nick Stoli Posted: 10/06/09 05:12 PM

It seems obvious they don't have the quaterfinalists yet. I bet they're still reading scripts -- not all, though, but enough so it'll look like they read them all (kinda like when you do a last minute book report and skim the novel). In other words, it's highly doubtful our scripts are being read carefully.

I'm definitely not entering again.

Author: Cat Bistransin Posted: 10/06/09 06:04 PM

I enter this contest occasionally, but I've always perceived the Expo itself to be a bit scary. And like Irin, I'd want the cred of placing at some level before embarking to L.A. Especially on such short, short, short to the point of rude, notice.

Cat

Author: Bobbette Findley Posted: 10/06/09 06:48 PM

Nick,

I agree with you. If they're not still reading and do have the list, what's the hangup? And if they are still reading, the scripts are not being given the attention they deserve. If they're not ready, just say that!! Heck, they could lie to save face and say something like "due to extending our late deadline, we had more entries than anticipated based on past entry amounts, so we were overwhelmed and are still evaluating."

Cat,

I agree with you too. In this economy, they must be out of their minds to expect those who don't live in LA to get out there on such short notice. And, boy is it ever rude!! I did early entry, so I had to sit through the late deadline extension and then they pull this crap. WTF?!

Author: Helmann Wilhelm Posted: 10/06/09 07:45 PM

Anyone else receive word on what's happening?

Author: Paula Smith Posted: 10/06/09 08:29 PM

My guess is they are working on the Expo itself. It takes a lot of work to put on an event.

I doubt that they are still reading scripts.
