Topic: We optioned our movie!!!

Author: Heather Hughes Posted: 08/19/10 11:48 PM

Hey all,

I wanted to share this with all of my moviebyte pals first!

My writing partner and I optioned our script Habit Forming to Academy nominated director Matthew Diamond. The negotiations took forever, but the deal is all signed, sealed and delivered. Very, very happy about it.

Thanks for always being so supportive you guys!

Heather

Woo Hoo! Congratulations!

Congratulations! For all of us toiling away in the contest trenches, did competitions play a role anywhere along the way? Helping to get representation, convincing anyone to read it? I'd love to hear how it went down.

Robert,

Thanks!

Contests played a huge part. I've had two agents now and the only reason they took any notice was because I had some recognition from contests.

I was introduced to my first agency by a non-Hollywood friend and I don't think he would have made the call if I hadn't gotten some results in contests. (And when I say results, I mean I only advanced for the most part.)

Hope that helps.

Heather

CONGRATS Heather!

Author: Heather Hughes Posted: 08/20/10 12:22 PM

Thanks so much. I will keep you posted, although I expect that it will take a long time before things get going. That's why I'm celebrating the option. I know that it's sit-around-and-wait time for me and that all I can do is go back to my desk and start the next one.

Hey gang, I stumbled on this blog that looks like its posted by a company that makes game trailers (Mediajuice)They're making ten videos breaking down the "story beats" of ten of the most popular movies of all time (according to them). Last week they posted their first blog entry which also had the first video which I FLIPPED out when I saw, it was BACK TO THE FUTURE!!! http://mediajuicestudios.wordpress.com/ I always loved this 80's classic and even though i know nothing about screenwriting, this video "tribute" has gotten me really interested. If anything it makes me want to re-watch Back to the Future, which i think I'll do now. Hope you enjoy the video as much as i did. I went directly to the Mediajuice website (http://www.mediajuicestudios.com/#/savethecat/) and from the looks of it, they'll be releasing nine more with "ET" being the next one! Can't wait!!!

Edwards - you've posted this several times and we've never heard of you. We get it - it's an ad, thanks for the plug, but this is a thread to congratulate Heather.

Heather,

Congratulations! In actually, this deal came to be because of me.

There's a cosmic balance in life and since I'm finishing last place in contests, this allowed you to do so well.

You're welcome. :)

Seriously folks, thanks for letting us know there's hope and good job!!

Author: Heather Hughes Posted: 08/20/10 02:44 PM

Look, my first "commercial" via Edward. I wonder how much it pays.

Thanks Matt for bumping me up in the contests:)

Julie, I will always have time for my friends here:)

Regarding the logline, we aren't legally allowed to give it out, but it was a finalist for the Kairos prize this year, so if you googled it.... Just saying.

John, thanks so much. I was just rereading the Hitchcock interview you sent me. Always so useful.

"Habit Forming"? What an intriguing title! I'm guessing it's either about nuns or drug dealers. Or BOTH. (Am I anywhere near close?)

Congratulations on optioning your movie, Heather!

Author: Heather Hughes Posted: 09/02/10 10:35 PM

Thanks! Not drugs:)
