Screenwriter Interviews

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Tim Morgan

An interview with screenwriter Tim Morgan regarding the Hollywood Scriptwriting Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: GREEN FOX is the title of the script I entered in this competition.

A Marine sniper fights to save the world from a race of interstellar ants.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: I've taken the Hollywood Scriptwriting courses (intermediate and advanced). The same script placed 11th in the 2003 Writer's Digest competition.

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: Yes on all accounts. HSI made the notifications promptly and I received everything as promised.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: I was given a page of "coverage" on the script. The feedback was good, but there weren't any suggestions for improvement -- though it seems like other scripts may receive more detailed suggestions from the way the form is set up.

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: There were a couple of hits on Inktip.com after the script won, but nobody's mentioned the contest specifically.

I sent GREEN FOX to Marvel Entertainment's comic book division, and it's opened the door for me to continue submitting work. I mentioned winning the contest in the query letter; I'm not sure how much it helped, but Marvel got back to me quickly.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: Yes, I've written a couple more screenplays, including one that placed 6th in the Writer's Digest contest, and was a finalist in the AKA Shriekfest competition.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: No, I live on the East Coast...if there was the proverbial "offer I couldn't refuse" I would move, but I have no immediate plans to move.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: Script wise, I'm wrapping up a new sci-fi thriller, then perhaps working on an action-comedy.
