An interview with screenwriter David DeBord regarding the Great Lakes Writing Competition.
Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?A: "LEGS" A young female professor discovers more than minor abnormalities in the frogs at a peaceful Oregon lake. Meanwhile, resentment between the locals and a retired professor who ended their logging industry simmers as everyone searches for a mysterious creature in the lake.
Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?A: The Great Lakes Film Association screenplay contest seemed to be a legitimate event within a sea of questionable operations.
A second contest, the annual Iowa Motion Picture Association awards for screenplays, resulted in a top five award.
A: Great Lakes seems to be a professionaly administed contest with qualified staff and movie-knowledable judges.
Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?A: No feedback yet, but anticipate future discussion.
Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?A: It's still early. Contest results were announced a few days ago.
Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?A: Background: Master's degree in a design profession, but for the past two years, concentration on writing career.
Have written other spec scripts and a spec TV show script. Nothing yet filmed. Several radio plays performed.
A: No and no.
Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?A: Three to four active scripts always in some phase of development.
