Screenwriter Interviews

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter timothy ellmore

An interview with screenwriter timothy ellmore regarding the Get Initiative Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: TANGIER TANGO is a romantic comedy set on the remote island of Tangier in the middle of the Cheasapeake Bay--a place that has changed little in more than three hundred years since the first permanent settlers arrived in 1686--and which is the home of the Watermen of Tangier, a people who "have their own ways". Henry Stone is drifting in life and away from his gifts as an artist developed on the island, his mother's birthplace.

When the death of his great uncle, also a Henry, takes him back to the island, he is unaware that his presense and much of what ensues has been carefully orchestrated by his Uncle's friends and neighbors who are following requests in Uncle Henry's Will.

The unique residents of Tangier chart a new course for Henry Stone whether he wants it or not! When an Island woman he knew as a girl enters the currents of his life, the residents smooth the path of romance as unseen matchmakers.

The life of the watermen, experts in the capture of the Atlantic Blue crab, their unusual speech and manner, and the tidewater sunsets reawaken a love of painting and of life both jaded since his father's death.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: An earlier version won ist place in the 2000 Va. Governor's Screenwriting competition. Latest version has made the second round in the Screenplay Festival competition in two categories, family and comedy.

Another script, Carte Blanche, first place winner in Breckenridge Film Festival Competition, 1999.

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: Deadline extended, have not received any award items.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: none

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: Have as yet had no contact by agents or agencies.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: Newspaper, Theater, summer stock, Wrote one "Wonder Years" TV Script.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: No plans to move to LA and I don't waste one second trying to guess what Hollywood wants. Original material and voices unique to a writer's own style have the best chance to produce a quality script. I believe the best begin and end with character.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: Always
