Screenwriter Interviews

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Nino Del Pesco

An interview with screenwriter Nino Del Pesco regarding the Cinestory Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: My script it titled "THE THIRD REALM" and is about a series of brutal murders in Nazi Germany and the two men who work to solve the case. One a Jewish former criminal inspector from Munich pulled from a concentration camp, the other a Nazi criminal inspector in Berlin who heads up the investigation.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: When I read what they had to offer as a prize, it seemed interesting. In all honesty, I just entered the contest to enter, no special reason attached. In hindsight, it's amusing to reflect on my motivations for entering as I now know that CineStory is, in my opinion, one of the top 3 contests around and the best kept secret in Hollywood.

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: Once you understand all that goes into making this thing function, the desire to have everything sent exactly on time and have everything run smoothly becomes inconsequential. I'm anal to a fault about that stuff, but got over it quickly. Pam Pierce and Clea Frost are great and they both, along with the other staff, worked their collective butts off for those of us who attended. My best advise for those entering CineStory is to go with the flow. Everything does get done, just not on your timetable, so make sure you keep in touch with the staff during the process. Once you get up there, everything will make sense.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: The most amazing and important feedback one could hope for. Awesome in the truest sense of the word.

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: As a result of entering CineStory, I now have an amazing producer, Michelle Sy, attached to the script and will be working with two very talented screenwriters, Joe Forte and Mark Fergus, as mentors for the next year.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: I co-wrote a comedy called "THAT'S LIFE" with the very talented Paul Glen Neuman and the generous and talented Phil Rockwell.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: I'm originally from SoCal and lived in Hollywood for many years. My last home was in Oxnard, CA (not just another pretty name), but left in 2007 after my wife was accepted to the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul. We will be returning to CA upon her graduation.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: I'm currently doing a major rewrite of "THE THIRD REALM" based on the notes from my mentors and my producer. I am also working on a SciFi/Thriller which I hope to have done before the ned of Winter. Plenty of ideas in the cooker too.
