Synopsis

HC of this LIMITED SERIES: For ELIZA, a Californian woman returning to LA from small-town, mid-west America, it promises freedom, but for a devout Hindu woman dragged to the US through marriage, it’s a prison and when their children decide to marry, it’s fireworks. For but for GARATI, a traditionalist Hindu, dragged to the US via marriage, it’s a prison so they clash big time when Eliza’s son and her daughter choose to marry. But sharing common ground – cheating husbands, social prejudice, and a love for their child, may pave the way to the altar for their love birds ... LEAD CHARACTERS: ...a buddy story ELIZA (48): returning to L.A. after a "vanilla" marriage, means freedom to embrace a liberal, “new-age” lifestyle, but beneath that breezy exterior lurks guilt and a sense of inadequacy, GARATI (45): embracing traditional Hindu culture as an immigrant living in the US, is her “comfort zone” but it's also a gilded cage. Feeling isolated and unhappy, with her relationship with her husband and daughter, strained, she's determined to keep up appearances as a matter of pride TRANSFORMATIONAL JOURNEY: Eliza thinks swapping bake sales for transcendental yoga, means she’s “arrived” but dark shadows surface that she must come to terms with in order to bless and release herself. Garati’s ability to keep the lid on her inner angst is obliterated when learning of her daughter’s “illegal” relationship with a foreigner, their love-child, and their intention to marry, but Eliza’s “sisterhood-in-solidarity” approach helps Garati begin to put love before tradition and it might just pave the way to the altar for their two love birds.
