An interview with screenwriter Audrey Cefaly regarding the Gimme Credit Writing Competition.
Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?A: The piece is entitled Fin and Euba.
Fin and Euba are friends and co-workers at a paper mill in Cantonment, Florida. They also share space in a rooming house, which they are desperately trying to escape, due to the tyrannical landlady who has a penchant for strict rules and tacky yard art. Unbeknownst to Euba, Fin submits some of Euba's amateur photos to Life Magazine.
Euba receives a reply from Life, but is reluctant to open it for fear or rejection, or worse…acceptance. Fin and Euba sit on the porch drinking, smoking, flicking ashes into a coffee can, and contemplating their lives and their plans for escape.
A: I submitted Fin and Euba to about 11 screenplay competitions. Of the 6 that have posted results already, Fin and Euba is a finalist in 5 of them. It won Total Film Fest, placed 3rd with Gimme Credit and is also a finalist in Indefest Chicago, Boston International Film Festival and Gloria Internatinal Film Festival.
Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?A: Yes, I was very satisfied with their communications, their marketing, their website. All of it was great. They have been very kind.
Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?A: I wasn't really given any feedback on the script. I have been told by other festivals that it's a neat piece.
Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?A: Not yet! But one of the judges in the Total Film Fest has said he wants to produce it.
Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?A: My background is in theater and stageplays. This is my first screenplay. It was based on my highly successful stageplay that is still enjoying many productions around the country. The story of Fin and Euba transcends genre I think.
Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?A: Nope! And Nope! I'm happily living near Annapolis.
Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?A: Yes. I am working on a feature-length prequel to Fin and Euba, called Mill Town Girls.
