Screenwriter Interviews

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Glenn Farrington

An interview with screenwriter Glenn Farrington regarding the Monterey Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: My script THE RIG, that won the Grand Prize at MONTEREY is about a replacement crew of oil workers who arrive at an offshore rig to find it completely abandoned. When a storm keeps them from leaving they soon realize they're not alone after all.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: I entered into the Monterey competition for two reasons. I had seen many recommendations by other writers online about how well they run their contest and the fact that Monterey really cared about doing more for the winners besides awarding them money. I liked that they would arrange for you to meet producers/agents that could help further your career.

THE RIG was also a finalist in the SCREAMFEST LA, a semi-finalist in THE WRITERS NETWORK and a quarter finalist in SCRIPTAPALOOZA.

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: Monterey is a first class competition all the way. All deadlines were met and I received everything I was promised.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: I did receive feedback and I found it to be very useful. Just another reason why this competition should always be recommended.

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: I was overwhelmed by the agents/producers and managers that contacted me because of the Monterey win. It eventually led to my current representation.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: I was a professional comedian for most of my life headlining clubs all over the country. I've also appeared on HBO, SHOWTIME, MTV, VH-1 and A&E.

The only TV writing I've done was the info-mercial that launched the INDEPENDENT FILM CHANNEL for BRAVO. So in a way, I was still close to the art form that I love...film-making

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: The MONTEREY win gave me the push I needed to enter another one of scripts into competitions as well. It wound up being a finalist at SCRIPTPIMP and THE WRITERS NETWORK. This led to landing a great manager (Andrew Kersey) who had originally read my first script that won the Grand Prize at MONTEREY and thankfully he convinced me into making the move to LA were I currently live.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: Now that the strike is over...thank god, I have a comedy and a fantasy comedy along the lines of NIGHT OF THE MUSEUM that we will soon be looking to attach to the right producer.

And my definition of the right producer is: Anyone that likes my script.

You gotta love this town.
