Screenwriter Interviews

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Nino Del Pesco

An interview with screenwriter Nino Del Pesco regarding the Omaha Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: The screenplay is titled THE THIRD REALM and deals with a series of murders in WWII era Berlin and what happens when the Nazis take a former Jewish KRIPO detective, Emil Weiss, now in Auschwitz, and use him to help solve the case. What the inspector who oversees Weiss doesn't know is that someone else has ulterior motives for wanting Weiss in Berlin.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: Nothing in particular, I was just entering as many contests I could afford. I have entered many contests and the script has constantly placed in the top tier. It also won the 2008 DEADcenter screenplay competition.

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: Yes. The contest was run very well to the best of my knowledge and, as far as I know, all deadlines were met. I got all the awards except the T-Shirt, which is no big deal... I have plenty already.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: No, other than they liked the script a lot. Feedback was not one of the perks mentioned in the description of the contest.

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: This contest did not generate any heat for the script, but it did allow me to list it as an award winning screenplay, and was my first Win in a competition. Just being able to say that your script has placed first in a competition sets it apart.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: THE THIRD REALM is my freshman effort at screenwriting. I did co-write a comedy called THAT'S LIFE with the very prolific Paul Glen Neuman, who was the principal scribe on the project. I have also written a number of 10 page one-act plays as a contributing writer for the Ruskin Group Theatre's, L.A. Cafe Play series.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: I lived in Los Angeles for years, but moved to Oxnard, CA in 2001. Currently my wife and I relocated to St. Paul, MN after her acceptance to the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota. We will be moving back to Southern California when she's done with her studies.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: I'm working on two different screenplays, along with getting loglines and synopses of other ideas ready to take to the next level. THE THIRD REALM has been optioned and I'm currently working with a producer to tighten it up before it goes out.
