Screenwriter Interviews

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Amy Krizon

An interview with screenwriter Amy Krizon regarding the Great Lakes Run & Gun Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: "DuaLife" is about a single mother,Sher, who during the day, works for the local chapter of "Families for Morality". By night, she's an exotic dancer. The club is raided one evening, and she must face the consequences of her double life.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: The Run & Gun Project coincides with the Great Lakes Film Festival. I had volunteered at the prior festivals. People always told me I was a creative person, and I should do something with it, so, I decided to enter.

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: Yes, everything that was promised was provided and more. The winning screenplay gets made into a film during the 3 days of the Festival and is then presented as a finished product on the last night of the festival. We, however, didn't need the full 3 days, we shot the movie in 12 hours, and editted it in less than 2 days! I co-directed the film with Elizabeth Double. It was our first venture into the film industry. I had an excellent crew and a great cast. If I never win another screenplay contest, or get involved with anymore films, this experience has been awesome. It is something that not just anybody experiences in thier lifetime, so I consider myself lucky.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: Yes, and it was very helpful. There's so much you don't see when you write. I remember my college English papers. I recently looked at them again and thought, "What the hell was I thinking!".

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: No, I haven't been yet. But, I have been offered a lead in another short film, and encouraged to follow through with my other ideas for short screenplays.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: No, this is my first, and hopefully, not my last! I have acted in local theatre stage plays, and written a few short stories.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: No, and who knows? I don't say anything for sure, because in the past when I have, it ALWAYS turns out for the worst. I just live day-to-day, take things as they come, and above all, try to have fun in everything I do.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: Yes, I'm working on another semi-autobiographical dramtic short. I have other ideas for a short horror film. All in good time.
