Screenwriter Interviews

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter pal parrella

An interview with screenwriter pal parrella regarding the Worldfest - Houston Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: "Brother Frank" is based on the autobiography by Frank Minucci about a boy who is kidnapped back by his mother from a foster home that he was put into because he and his sisters were being abused by his mother. She drops young Frank off at a remote location where he is tied up to a bed in the attic and sexually abused by his captors over the next 2 years. Over the course of his life he struggles with his inner demons and a growing sense of enlightenment as he is in and out of foster homes, jails, becomes president of the eastern chapter of the Hell's Angels, then an enforcer for the mafia and finally today is an ordained Minister of the church. It is truly an inspiring story.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: My partner and I have been researching contests ever since we completed "Brother Frank." We also entered A Feeding Frenzy and placed in the top ten. We've since pulled the script from competition and are re-writing for the 10th time.

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: Yes. Worldfest was a good experience.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: Wasn't given feedback from Worldfest but Feeding Frenzy was extremely helpful in igniting one of our re-writes.

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: Not yet.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: This was our first sript.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: Right now, we have no intentions on moving. If need be, we'd move.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: Revising, revising, revising...
