Screenwriter Interviews

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Darren Coyle

An interview with screenwriter Darren Coyle regarding the Spec Scriptacular Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: "Power Lunch" is about a talent agency that handles super heroes.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: I entered TV Writer.com's contest because I like their site and feel like they're genuinely interested in helping writers and fostering people's writing and their careers. Plus, you can email their founder personally and he writes back to you rather quickly - that's a personal service!

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: The award for 3rd place was simply a mentoring session, which I have to admit I have not followed up on yet.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: they didn't give feedback - you have to pay extra for that.

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: it hasn't given me any contacts, but it has been encouraging to enter other contests and to keep trying.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: I have written a couple of feature scripts, as well as a couple tv scripts and stage plays. I work in television, so I'm trying to push forward and finally work on my own stuff.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: I live in New York, and don't have plans to move to LA. Unless someone gives me a job there.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: I am still shopping around "Power Lunch" and pitching my other tv scripts. I am also working on some pitches for comic books.
