Screenwriter Interviews

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Elizabeth Appell

An interview with screenwriter Elizabeth Appell regarding the Nevada Film Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: Lessons from the Gypsy Camp

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: I entered because I heard from the grapevine that there were not thousands of submissions and therefore I'd have a chance.

It placed in the following: Third, Pacific Northwest Writers Assn. Finalist, TVWriter.com Semi-Finalist, Writers Network Finalist, Southwest Writers Second, Script Spectacular Semi-Finalist, Page

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: They were fabulous!

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: Not really feedback. Just encouragement to get the script out. They actually sent it to some production companies that requested it.

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: I was contacted by a couple of producers and one optioned the script.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: Yes, I have another script I'm submitting to competitions now and I'm working on a new one.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: I live in northern California. No plans to move. I had a play produced in Los Angeles last year so I hopped a plane to go to some rehearsals. It's easy getting down there and great to be there.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: Yes, a thriller entitled, "A Question of Forgiveness."
