An interview with screenwriter Jomo Merritt regarding the GAFFERS Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: The title of my script is "Dance of Isaiah" and it is about a Greek-American woman about to marry a non-Greek man, finds out about the marriage ''curse'' placed on her grandfather and how she must break it.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: To be honest, I liked the website and I liked the international and cultural feel it had to it. I have entered into at least five other contest but GAFFERS was the only contest so far where I placed in the top 3.

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: The administration was perfect and yes they did meet their deadlines. Everything was done on time and yes, I did receive all the awards promised. I was very excited to be there and walked away, learning a lot.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: No I didn't receive any feedback on the script but that was okay. As I mentioned earlier, I was just excited to be there.

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: Not yet but it did help me to build my resume.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: I have written three feature length screenplays and one short script. I have also written a novel that is currently under literary representation.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: No, not unless God tells me to move.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: Yes, my new script is named A Very Wicked Season and it is about Christian Native American woman that finds out that her grandmothers suicide may have been murder.
