Screenwriter Interviews

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Heather Regnier

An interview with screenwriter Heather Regnier regarding the Scriptapalooza Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: The script is called SOBER LIVING, and it's about a woman in her late twenties who is reunited with her estranged family when she is forced to go to treatment at her parents sober living facility. There's also a lot of sex and drugs and well, all of the fun parts of hedonism in excess.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: I wanted to enter Scriptapalooza because it's one of the best and most reputable competitions; and I've applied to several others as well. I've won one other competition, and placed highly in several others.

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: Yes, I did. Scriptapalooza was great in all regards. Promises were fulfilled, deadlines were met, dreams came true. A+ rating, all around.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: I was not given any feedback on my script, but I didn't ask for any; (though I suspect if I had, it would've been kickass.)

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: I was contacted by a couple of managers and producers. None of them ended in marriage, but I'm not in a frantic rush to find representation if it doesn't fit. I look forward to the day when I meet an agent/producer that I click with.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: I went to USC Screenwriting school, where I wrote a truckload of scripts, pilots and specs. It was awesomeness. My background is awesomeness.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: I was born and raised in LA, so one day I would love to move out actually; but that plan requires a yacht and a crew which makes me mimosa's all day; so until that days comes, I'm here to stay.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: I am working on a couple of feature scripts; one for my manager and one for me! One's a comedy and the other is more of a dramedy, and I'm having a blast with both. I'm also rewriting a drama feature , a comedy feature, and a drama pilot; projects which have also been lots of fun for me.
