Screenwriter Interviews

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Harry Gersteneker

An interview with screenwriter Harry Gersteneker regarding the Anything But Hollywood Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: Title of my screenplay is Infirmities, a medical thriller set in a nursing home that is managed by a group of greedy operators who terminate infirm patients that have signed over all their worldly assets to the company. And when investigative reporter Rick Steel checks into the care center undercover, he discovers a home straight out of hell and nearly becomes a victim to be stored in a block of ice in the forbidden termination room.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: To determine if my published novella, Infirmities could be written as a successful screenplay. This work has never been entered in a previous screenplay contest.

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: Yes, I was satisfied with the contest rules. I received a Top 19 Finalist award for Infirmities.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: I was not given any feedback or input on my script.

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: I made no attempt to market my script or contact an agent or producer.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: Infirmities is my first attempt at screenplay writing. I have had three novels and one novella previously published and two full length novels due for release in the summer of 2004 by an established royalty paying publisher.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: I have never been to Los Angeles.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: I am considering writing a screenplay based on my published medical/crime/drama novel titled, Natural Causes.
