Screenwriter Interviews

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Ben Fiore

An interview with screenwriter Ben Fiore regarding the Gimme Credit Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: "The Hit" is about a Mafia contract killing gone awry.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: I found the Gimme Credit Screenplay Competition to be very professional on my last outing with a short script that scored as a finalist in 2006. Their entry fee is also quite reasonable.

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: Absolutely. Deadlines were met and as I stated above, it was run quite professionally.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: I am eagerly awaiting that phase for this year's competition. On last year's entry, I received a very detailed, helpful analysis of my script. The judges were concise, knowledgeable and right on the money.

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: I am currently represented by Marcus Bryan & Associates of Chicago, and they're very happy with the contest results. Naturally, we welcome any producers interested in my work.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: I am a retired NYC Police Officer and have been taking the craft of screenwriting seriously for almost 10 years. My credits include several short, independent films, several of which have been official selections of three major New York film festivals. I have several feature length screenplays and TV pilots to my credit as well.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: I reside in New York's Long Island with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons. We love the great city of Los Angeles and have many friends there, but we have no plans to leave New York any time soon.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: I am currently working on a spec sitcom pilot for TV as a co-creator and writer and I am also testing the waters as a DV filmmaker. I love the short screenplay genre and plan to write many more in hopes of being recognized again by respectable contests like the Gimme Credit Screenplay Competition!
