Screenwriter Interviews

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Sean Mick

An interview with screenwriter Sean Mick regarding the PAGE International Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: The title of my script is SILENCER.

It's an action/adventure about a hit man who goes to war with his former employer to rescue the daughter of the woman he loves.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: After researching a host of contests online, this was one of three contests I entered the script in during 2005, the others being Scriptapalooza & Open Door. The Page International contest was the one I did well in (Gold Prize - First Place - in the Action/Adventure Category).

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: I was extremely impressed by the administration of the Page International contest. I was e-mailed at every step along the way to keep me posted on how my script was doing. After one judge returned my reading copy with coffee stains on it (but with very good feedback), I was given the opportunity to submit a clean copy for the next round of judging. All deadlines were met and all awards were received as promised, including my prize money check, gift certificates, and magazines subscriptions. The free InkTip posting as led to several requests for my complete screenplay. I highly recommend this contest.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: I did not request judge's feedback option, so none was given.

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: I have had over half a dozen requests for my script. I am also in contact with one of the judges, a manager, who has requested my next script.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: I've written numerous spec scripts, both features & television. Some years ago, after placing a script in the quarter-finals of the Nicholl Fellowships, I was working with an agent but it did go as well as I had hoped. I put writing aside to focus on the day job, have kids, etc. Now I'm back to writing and looking forward to that first sale.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: I live in Nevada not far from Lake Tahoe, so getting to LA is an easy thing. I prefer to stay where I am and travel there for meetings as needed, but would certainly relocate when the right opportunity presents itself.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: I'm getting the word out on SILENCER while doing a final rewrite/polish of ANTHEM, a futuristic action script originally cowritten with a friend. I have two more in the pipeline, GUNSLINGER, a supernatural western, and FLOYD & ROGER CONQUER THE UNIVERSE, an action/adventure.
