An interview with screenwriter Mark A. Daniels regarding the Gimme Credit Writing Competition.
Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?A: The title of the screenplay is "Peanut Butter Terrorist." This story is a dark comedy based upon a true event that happened a few years ago. The story involves an elementary school girl who brings a butter knife to school so she can make a peanut butter sandwich. Mass panic ensues when the "deadly weapon" is exposed.
Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?A: Gimme Credit featured a category for very short screenplays. My script is only two pages in length.
This is the only contest which I've entered with this particular script.
A: I was very satisfied with the administration and the interest that was taken with my script. The decision for the winners of the very short scripts was on April 15th, and I received notice on April 16th--very timely. Awards are coming, along with consideration for the grand prize.
Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?A: The congratulations e-mail gave a good amount of helpful feedback on my screenplay. Details on the second round of judging for the grand prize were also given.
Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?A: Everything is new right now and the script hasn't been marketed fully yet. I'm very hopeful of getting produced in the near future, especially with this achievement.
Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?A: I have degrees in communications and education, and I currently oversee a communications program with Corbin City Schools. I also serve as a grantwriter for the school district and community in southeastern Kentucky.
I have written five feature scripts and several short screenplays.
A: Although I don't live in Los Angeles, it is a place I frequently visit. I love the city and the state of California, and it would be a great place to relocate!
Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?A: I'm constantly working on new scripts, along with marketing existing ones!
