MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Martin Stack

An interview with screenwriter Martin Stack regarding the Script Savvy Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: Crystal Death is a story about an Arizona DEA agent that loses faith in the system when a deadly and mysterious form of meth causes the death of her teenage niece. With the help of a family friend, she leads a team of military contractors into Mexico to assassinate the drug lord responsible. Once there, they uncover his plan to reclaim the western US as Mexican territory by infecting millions of meth addicts with an ancient virus that will turn them into an army of undead. Trapped and surrounded 40 feet below the Sonoran Desert, they must work with the enemy to survive and escape before hundreds of zombies storm the border.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: I was looking for a contest that provided excellent feedback. ScriptSavvy fit the bill very nicely. I can't say enough about the quality and professionalism of the contest and everyone involved.

Earlier versions of Crystal Death placed well in several contests. With the help of ScriptSavvy, my screenplay is a considerably more polished and I expect it to do even better this year.

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: Very satisfied. Donna White is great. Always professional and prompt in her correspondence. Top-notch contest. ScriptSavvy will be the first stop for all my future scripts.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: Feedback was phenomenal. Constructive criticism tempered with encouragement, their feedback really drilled down on the areas that worked or needed improvement.

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: Winning ScriptSavvy has definitely gotten Crystal Death some exposure. I received requests from several ProdCos and a management company.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: Software Developer by day, obsessive-compulsive screenwriter by night. Crystal Death is my first completed screenplay though I have several other stories in various stages of development.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: I live in a Northwestern suburb of Atlanta and have for the past 17 years. I don't have any plans to move to LA but then again, you never know.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: I have several stories in various stages of development: A buddy crime/comedy, a animated/family, a coming-of-old-age, a supernatural thriller, and the sequel to Crystal Death.
