An interview with screenwriter Tim Steed regarding the New Hampshire Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: Spike Driver Blues. It's about a black janitor that uses a railroad spike to become a world class sculptor and the first African American to have a one man show at the fabled Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: I've done well. Overall winner in Blazing Quill, First in Skyfest - drama , Second in StoryPros - drama, couple of others.

Q: Were you satisfied with the administration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: For the most part.

Q: How long did it take you to write the script? Did you write an outline beforehand? How many drafts did you write?

A: Hundreds of drafts. Took over a year.

Q: What kind of software did you use to write the script, if any? What other kinds of writing software do you use?

A: MMScreenwriter

Q: Do you write every day? How many hours per day?

A: Maybe 5 days a week. Couple of hours a day.

Q: Do you ever get writer's block? If so, how do you deal with that?

A: Beer.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: UPN 65 Television Lots of short scripts for them.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: Nashville. But, if the doors opened to LA, I would more than likely go.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: Just got thru the first act about a Boston blue-blood FBI agent that is demoted to rural Tennessee and has to stop a plan to blow up a dam.
