An interview with screenwriter Deborah Baxtrom regarding the Script P.I.M.P. Writing Competition.
Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?A: Monstrous Passions is a dark and quirky bio on the life of Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein.
Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?A: I entered Script Pimp because it's a highly influencial screenwriting contest. They have excellent industry contacts and they work hard to promote the winner's and finalist's scripts.
I also entered Monstrous Passions in Scriptapalooza (and won) and in the Nicoll Fellowships (it is currently a semi-finalist).
A: Yes, Chad and everyone at Script Pimp are wonderful. They're professional, helpful, and they really care about the success of the writers. I received all the awards promised and more!
Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?A: I was given professional feedback and I found that it was accurate and very helpful.
Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?A: Yes, winning Script Pimp has helped me to market the script. I now have a literary manager who has sent my screenplay to six well known producers and I have a meeting next week with the head of a top production company.
Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?A: I'm originally from Wisconsin but have lived in NYC, London, and currently Los Angeles. I've worked as a story analyst and freelance writer and have written and directed two award-winning short films. I've also written several feature-length screenplays. One, titled Imps, has also won contests.
Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?A: Yes, I live in Studio City in LA.
Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?A: I'm currently working on a romantic/action comedy.
