Objective
CineStory is a national non-profit dedicated to nurturing emerging screenwriters through mentorship programs. Winners of our competition have gone on to pen films such as IRON MAN, CAKE, THE CHILDREN OF MEN, BALLAST, KING OF CALIFORNIA and 11:14.
One of the main goals of the CineStory Feature Retreat is to select up-and-coming screenwriters for our four-day intensive program held in the Fall.
THE CINESTORY FEATURE RETREAT
CineStory's Retreat is dedicated to the advancement of great new voices in screenwriting. Retreat attendees are chosen from the top writers of our annual competition, the CineStory Screenwriting Awards. For four days, writers enjoy direct access to working Hollywood professionals.

GRAND PRIZE: THE CINESTORY FELLOWSHIP
Valued at over $17,000 this prize includes a $10,000 cash award, free meals, board and tuition at the exclusive CineStory Writers Retreat as well as a 12-month mentorship program with two Hollywood professionals hand picked for the winner. The CineStory Fellowship gives writers direct access to Hollywood professionals and has a long track record of success. Prior fellows have optioned material, gained representation and secured writing assignments with the guidance of their mentors. Also included: one-year Script Pipeline Writers Database membership; three-year subscription to Creative Screenwriting; iScript screenplay audio recording; and one-year Scripped PRO subscription.
SECOND PLACE:

CineStory Benefit Chicago Film Premiere of Lions Gate Film "STEAL THIS MOVIE"
The Thursday, August 24th Chicago premiere of STEAL THIS MOVIE, a film
about the rise and fall of Abbie Hoffman in the maze of music, politics and
personal struggle of the 60s and 70s, is the centerpiece of a benefit for
CineStory, a Chicago-based nonprofit organization and conservatory for
independent screenwriters. The screening begins at 7pm at Loews Pipers
Alley Theater (North and Wells).
Cast members, including Vincent D'Onofrio (Abbie Hoffman), director Robert
Greenwald, and writer screenwriter Bruce Graham, are planning to
participate.
The Lions Gate presentation stars D'Onofrio, Janeane Garofalo, Jeanne
Tripplehorn and Kevin Pollak, and opens its regular run at the Pipers Alley
Theater on Friday, August 25.
Included in the two days of rapping, ruminating and revisiting the 60s and
70s is a free sit-in panel session with veteran activists and journalists
from the 1968 Democratic Convention demonstrations including Mike Gray
(documentarian AMERICAN REVOLUTION II, THE MURDER OF FRED HAMPTON,
screenwriter, CHINA SYNDROME) Gordon Quinn (President, Kartemquin Films,
exec. Producer HOOP DREAMS and VIETNAM, LONG TIME COMING) Ron Pitts
(Filmmaker/Activist) Bob Hercules, Producer/Director (THE DEMOCRATIC
PROMISE: SAUL ALINSKY AND HIS LEGACY, founder and co-owner of Media Process
Group) Mary Dixon, WXRT Radio News Anchor, will facilitate the rap
session which is 3-5 PM on Thursday, August 24 at the Second City ETC
Theater.
During the 5-7 dinner break restaurant sponsors, Marcello's Father and Son
Restaurant (Gourmet pizza and sandwiches) and Un Diamo's (Northern Italian
eclectic), will offer a free glass of beer or wine to STEAL THIS MOVIE
ticket holders when they purchase their meal.
Following the 7pm movie screening at Loews Pipers Alley, is a Q&A
discussion by the film creators, makers and actors of STEAL THIS MOVIE and
then, a post-screening "Steal This Party" dessert reception, performance
art and open mic at Un Diamo at 1617 North Wells that will include
Richard Catovsky's unique portrayal of Abbie Hoffman. Radio Station WXRT
radio is sponsoring all the Thursday events, and supporting sponsors
include Loews Cineplex Entertainment, Kinko's in Evanston , Video Replay,
T-GO and Company, as well as Marcello's Father and Son Restaurants and
Undiamo's.
Capping the events is a one-day intensive screenwriting workshop by STEAL
THIS MOVIE screenwriter, Bruce Graham, on Saturday, August 26, at the
University of Chicago's Gleacher Center, sponsored by the Writers Guild of
America East and the Graham School of General Studies, University of
Chicago.
