We actively push the Semifinalists, Finalists, Runners-Up and Winners for a full year with the intention of creating opportunities for the writers. We are a hands on competition because we feel it is important to continue supporting the top scripts beyond the cash and prizes.
We are proud to present the competition with Write Brothers, a company that not only provides the necessary tools for writing but is an advocate and true supporter of emerging writers.
Also, we are supported by the Writers Guild of America west and the Writers Guild of Canada.
Notification: August 15

How did you come up with your story idea?
I don't know where the ideas come from. I guess some news story about a celebrity pulling off a secret wedding planted the seed. I think coming up with ideas is the easy part. Building a good story around any idea is the hard part.
How long did it take you to write it?
The first draft took about six weeks to complete. Over the next ten months or so I completed about five additional drafts. Characters changed, scenes were cut and added. Subplots were revised, eliminated or replaced. Around February of this year the script felt pretty solid. If it weren't for my day job I'm sure I could've completed it in less time.
Is this your first script that you have written?
STANDING IN is my fourth script but it's the first one I've felt confident in marketing.
Have you entered other screenwriting competitions? If so, have you been successful?
This is the first script I've entered in any competition. I do have it entered in other competitions but as of this date none of those competitions have finished.
Why did you enter Scriptapalooza?
Exposure. Making any of the cuts in a competition as prominent as this one increases the chances of having your work read by the people who make the decisions.
Advice to other screenwriters?
If a word, a line, a scene or the entire script isn't your best effort then work on it until it is.
Are you excited to use your new software from Screenplay Systems?
Absolutely. I've needed a real screenwriting program. Of course now my wife will expect twice the output.
How did you feel when you saw your name as one of the winners?
I went from incredulous to ecstatic in about two seconds. It still hasn't sunk in entirely.
