Contest News

Final Draft's 4th Annual International Screenwriting Contest Announced

Final Draft, Inc. (www.finaldraft.com), makers of the top-selling screenplay software Final Draft, announced today that it has begun taking entries for its annual "Big Break" International Screenplay Contest. Now in its fourth year, the contest has become one of the most popular in Hollywood due to previous winners' success and its generous payout. The first contest's winner "Dawg" by Ken Hastings, has been produced and shot by Gold Circle Films (starring Elizabeth Hurley and Denis Leary). The second contest's winner "Breathing Underwater" by Torye Mullins, has been optioned by Stephen J. Cannell Studio.

At the moment, last year's winner, "8 Track" by Shawn Corridan, has great interest from several firms. Shawn has said that "Final Draft's software and Big Break! Screenwriting Contest opened doors that countless query letters, screenwriting how-to books and a thousand thankless hours of writing could not. As a result of using Final Draft software and ultimately winning the contest, I was offered, literally overnight, representation by numerous agents and entertainment managers and was taking meetings with directors and producers (TV and film)."

This year's winner will receive $10,000 plus an all-expense-paid 3-day visit to Los Angeles to take meetings with studio executives and agents. Second prize is $3,000; third prize is $1,000. The top ten winners will be submitted to a Hollywood literary agent and will receive a copy of Final Draft Scriptwriting Software, a one-year subscription to Creative Screenwriting Magazine, Script Magazine and RES Magazine, a $50 gift certificate from The Writer's Computer Store and a copy of The Hollywood Creative Directory Producers Guide. Complete contest rules and entry forms may be downloaded and from http://www.finaldraft.com/bigbreak/index.html. Scripts may be submitted online at that address or mailed to Final Draft. Deadline for entries is May 31, 2003.
