Objective

Since 1999, WriteMovies’ screenwriting contests guarantee to develop our winners’ projects at our own expense and pitch them to producers with the power to make them happen. Our contests are designed to show you exactly how well your script currently competes in the market, and a clear ladder to success. Our results – with up to 50+ Quarter-Finalists, 25+ Semi-Finalists, 7+ Honorable Mentions and 5 winners – show you where your project currently sits in comparison to others, and our studio-quality tiers of script mentoring and script consultancy show you its potential and how to remove the obstacles to that success without compromising on the things that matter most to you about your script. Because we’re serious about selling our winners’ scripts, and we can prove we have the contacts and meetings to put them in front of decision makers at the heart of the international entertainment industry, our contests are designed to give all writers a clear sense of where their script currently stands in the market – and the clear answers you need about all that your project could achieve and how to fulfil it. Contest News

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Craig Berger

An interview with screenwriter Craig Berger regarding the WriteMovies.com Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: The script is called "The Devil and Agent Webster" and it's about what happens when The Devil has to go into the Federal Witness Protection Program.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: Whenever I have a few new scripts, I do a little on-line sweep, Moviebytes is quite helpful for this, and pick out about ten contests that I'm going to enter, that I like and think will be a good fit for me. This particular script is currently in the quarterfinal round of some other contests and I'm not sure how it will end up. It was also a 2nd rounder in the Austin Film Screenwriting competition.

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: I was certainly satisfied with the administration of the contest. It took me awhile to get a meeting with the sponsor of the contest, but I thought that was good because it meant he was busy getting movies made, which is what I want. So far, I have gotten everything that was promised as a result of winning.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: I have received extensive notes on the script and am sure the script has improved tremendously as a result. Writemovies and TalentScout Management are committed to helping me put out the best product possible.

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: I have only recently won the contest, but as word gets out, I expect marketing opportunities to grow. It's a fresh, funny script and I have high hopes! I also have many other scripts, a good number of which have placed in screenplay competitions, so I hope this award will help me find a dedicated agent who can help me take full advantage of my talent and prolific nature.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: Yes, I've written over a dozen feature screenplays, as well as several television pilots, stage plays, and comic book scripts.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: I moved out to Los Angeles from Brooklyn four years ago, and so far it seems like the right decision.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: I am always writing and working on scripts of one kind or another. My latest is based on my experiences as a Chess Coach in Harlem. There's always something new on the horizon as far as my writing goes.
