Objective:
The People's Pilot is a chance for outsiders to contribute to the medium they love by creating the kind of series they want to see, without worrying about the politics of television network and cable channel sales. See website for additional info.

Anyone who has never been professionally employed to write or rewite a TV pilot.
Entry Fee:
Rules:

  1. The PEOPLE'S PILOT especially encourages NEW writers because of the fresh outlooks and original perspectives they bring to the television industry, but in the interest of obtaining the greatest variety of new concepts possible this contest is open to ALL writers at all levels in all countries in the world except as expressly forbidden in paragraphs 8 & 9 below.
  2. Writers-submitters may enter as many times as they wish, but each entry must be accompanied by an entry fee of $40. This fee can be paid by check or international money order in U.S. funds, or by credit card.
  3. Entries can be made online, or by U.S. Mail enclosing the entry form. It is recommended that each writer(s)-submitter(s) protect his/her material by registering it with the U.S. Copyright office, the Writers Guild of America, West, or WriteSafe.Com.
  4. Pilot submissions must consist of a full-length PILOT SCRIPT (a teleplay designed to tell a typical story for the series while also introducing the main characters and overall situation) of a new broadcast, cable, or online (web) series intended for exhibition in the United States and/or any and all other English-speaking countries. The pilot script should include a title page presenting the following:
    • The title of the series
    • The title of the pilot episode
    • The name, address, & phone number of the writer(s)-submitter(s)
    • The e-mail address of the writer(s)-submitter(s)
  5. Optionally, the writer(s)-submitter(s) may also submit a "proposal," "presentation," "prospectus," or "leavebehind" to which the judges can refer for clarification and/or additional series information. The best proposals contain the following elements:
    • A summary of the basic idea behind the show, including the setting, theme, profession, etc.
    • A summary of the main continuing characters, their background and appearance, personalities, and their interaction
    • A statement of the kinds of situation in which the characters will be placed, including what the basic structure of those situations will be, what effect these situations will have on the characters, and what effect the characters will have on them
    • A short list of possible episodes with enough different stories to show that the series will be viable week to week
  6. All material must be the property of the writer(s)-submitter(s). It must be original work created by the writer(s)-submittor(s) and never before have been optioned, sold, or produced in any form in any medium.

  8. A. The writer(s)-submitter(s) must have copies of the material being submitted, and agree(s) not to hold PEOPLE'S PILOT, TVWRITER .COM, Cloud Creek Communications, Inc., Larry Brody, and/or their employees and representatives responsible should loss of the submitted material occur.
  9. B. The writer(s)-submittor(s) agree(s) not to hold PEOPLE'S PILOT, TVWRITER .COM, Cloud Creek Communications, Inc., Larry Brody, and/or their employees and representatives responsible should any questions arise regarding authorship or ownership of the material submitted, before, during, or subsequent to the judging of the contest.
  10. Relatives and employees of the PEOPLE'S PILOT, TVWRITER .COM, Cloud Creek Communications, Inc., Larry Brody and/or their representatives are ineligible for entry.

  • To encourage innovative thinking and series ideas that are genuinely new and different we proudly announce the WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT? AWARD to be given when and if an entry is truly original and compelling. To qualify for the WDITOTA? a concept must be one that demands recognition regardless of its commercial potential. During some running of the PEOPLE'S PILOT there may be 1 winner. During others, no winners. And during others there may be several winners.

    The Winner or Winners of the WDITOTA? will receive a 2-week in-residence fellowship at Cloud Creek Institute Of The Arts, where the creator will work with the CCIA professional staff to write and shoot a 5-minute DVD presentation of the idea for viewing on the Web and distribution to networks, prodcos and agents. ($15,000 value)
