My review of Justice League - the movie!!!!

PROS
-cool poses
-masterful chaos everywhere
-loved the Aquaman's scenes
-loved Wonder Woman dialogues
-frenetic fights at the end
-poetic mayhem on every frame

CONS
-make sure you rest before seeing, it moves too fast at the times - the action
-i wished the special effects was bette
r than Thor, but Thor had better special effects
-more money needed to make the actions clearer and cooler

Rating: PG-13 (for sequences of sci-fi violence and action), omg, when will Tarantino direct a DC or Marvel movie
Genre: Action & Adventure, Drama, Science Fiction & Fantasy, you got it
Directed By: Zack Snyder, he is a good director , but didn't he make Sucker Punch R-rated, that was his downfall
Written By: Chris Terrio, Joss Whedon, AWESOME
In Theaters: Nov 17, 2017 Wide, should of been a Xmas release
Runtime: 110 minutes , should be 1/2 a day with a Cirque Du Soliel version too
Studio: Warner Bros. Pictures (loved this company, so much power to create great films)

Script Oracle View This Topic MY SCRIPT ADVICE TO YOU

Don try to write a script at first with all these white space in it.
If you do this first - you will not nourish or maintain your IMAGINATION.
YOUR WILL LIMIT YOUR SELF. YOU WILL NOT DEVELOP YOUR IMAGINATION.

OKAY.

THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE....

FIRST -- BRAINSTORM, write it like a movie, with full descritioon and camera movements and shots AND collorful words

SECOND - EDIT it into a lean script, EDIT it into into a script like this --

http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/bourneidentity.html

EDIT, EDIT, EDIT, EDIT - UNTIL IT IS LEAN AND MEAN.

TRUST ME - THIS WILL be EASY ONCE YOU WRITE THE MOVIE LIKE A DIRECTOR.

SO, write it like a director FIRST.
THEN, edit it like a screen writer - will lots of white space.

--

SO WRITE LIKE A FILM DIRECTOR.
BUT EDIT LIKE A SCREENWRITER.

Some good examples on staging and writing action scenes exist in Thor 1 and Thor 3.

-write some wide shot scenes
-make it unpredictable by adding multi-action scenes
-let them speak during the action - short, smart full of attitude dialogues
-add dark humor
-make some of the action violent on a comical level

What is the big difference between a logline and a tagline?

WELL - A logline is a concept of the story. One or two sentences. For pitching.

eg.
CASABLANCA

Set in unoccupied Africa during the early days of World War II: An American expatriate meets a former lover, with unforeseen complications

And THEN tagline is simply a very short slick tag. For marketing.

eg.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
"One man's struggle to take it easy."

Hi,

Just saying I had a boss once who was like Harvey Weinstein.

*She gave me the job on the spot.
**Hired me on the spot. The eye contacts was too unprofessional.
***Gave me the best office on the floor.
*Supper nice to me. Very touchy. Like she was picking a spot every day.
**Gave me gifts.
**Asked me out every day. I had to be creative on how to say NO.
***And forced to walk her to her place after work.
*Get called in office if I talked to other staffs
**Forced me to buy her coffee
***And when I fought back, she would threaten to fire me.

That is my Harvey Weinstein story.

Script Oracle View This Topic MY SCRIPT ADVICE TO YOU

There are so many creative ways a screenplay gets to a producer or a Reader.

So, be creative.

One example.
As humans, we are attracted to one another for different reasons.
NO one knows why or how. Or how long term relationships are formed.
It's not a science. It happens. It's an emotional journey.

YOU CAN'T GO TO COLLEGE AND LEARN HOW TO CUT A DEAL OR BECOME A UNIQUE SOCIAL BUTTERFLY.
AND STILL BE IN CONTROL.

You GOT to try - TO BUILD relationships by sweating it out. Yes the first steps are very hard.
BUT JUST BE NICE AND RESPECTFUL AND WITTY.

IF YOU FAIL. IT'S OKAY. PICK YOURSELF UP AND try try try again until the the cow comes HOME.

LEARN HOW TO DO THIS.
TAKE YOURSELF OUT YOUR COMFORT ZONE.

READ BOOKS. GET A coach. Ask friends to help you.

Socializing is VERY VERY VERY hard for SCREENwriters. But you got to do it. It is VERY VERY VERY hard and painful.
YOU GOT TO DO IT - WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE AN AGENT OR MANAGER. OR NEVER WILL.

So, talk and become friends with staffs at the production companies and agencies etc.

Friends help friends.

Try it - you will surprise how friends help friends.

Some times - ACQUAINTANCES HELP ACQUAINTANCES.

GOOD luck.

Wow. I am seeing blade runner 2049 again today.
Don't miss this classic sci fi masterpiece. This is one amazing movie experience.
This is a great movie to watch by script writers -on how to create mystery and suspense in your screenplays.

And study the action - thought the theme is sexily bleak but the action is SO MUCH fun to watch.
The best fight is the part where HF's dog is lounging about and RG fights like hell and gets a good pounding.
And the last fight on, near the lake.
Love how they incorporated the (water , waves and night shots, martial arts and these THUNDEROUS waves, loved those ocean, lake waves) LOVED IT

Upcoming independent directors and producers will love you. They are obsessed with locations and budgets.

When you do a REWRITE.
YOU must be serious.
WHY are the managers or agents not calling you?
BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO DO A REWRITE.
Why is it you are not placing in contests?
BECAUSE YOU MUST.
YOU MUST DO A REWRITE.

AND :

YOU must know THAT it will be difficult.
YOU must know it will affect your moods and energy level and anxiety.

THIS IS WHY YOU MUST DO A REWRITE.

STRESS ANXIETY = WRITERS MOTIVATION.

The best way to do a rewrite is to print and edit with a pen.
YOU HAVE TO GO INTO THE TRENCHES LIKE THE GREAT PAST WRITERS OF THE WORLD.
GOOGLE HOW THEY EDITED THEIR DRAFTS.
THE best writers edited with a pen and then gave their TYPISTS to re-type.

AFTER you finish your reWRITE.
JUST update your digital files.

IT MIGHT TAKE YOU A MONTH OR LESS or more to complete your rewrite.
But when you are done - it's the most rewarding experience ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU CAN
DO IT.
WORK HARD.

If you have a screenplay or TV pilot on the level of Game Of Thrones or Lord of The Rings - it's also a good idea
to adapt it to a novel.

1. if you don't have time, hire someone to write the novel version of your script
2. or co -write with a proven novelist
3. or write the novel version yourself and hire an editor

And as you go out to pitch it, they will love you because you have the

Always get feedback/notes on your scripts from script professionals/coaches/readers and friends.

Good or bad. Read the notes.
Let it sink in.
Don't fuss.
Don't get upset.
Or brag.

Let it sink IN.

NEXT STEP:
1. print your script and do a rewrite
2. upon the rewrite, you will make changes
3. don't think too much of the notes YOU GOT EARLIER
4. let THE SCRIPT FLOW NATURALLY without trying - while editing
5. DON'T FORCE THE NOTES INTO THE SCRIPT. LET THE NOTES FALL NATURALLY INTO THE SCRIPT. NATURALLY.
6. YOUR SCRIPT HAS LIFE. IT WILL EITHER reject the notes or accept the notes

Since the movie and TV landscape is changing drastically.

We must learn from last week GAME OF THRONES.

When writing action -
1. write something we haven't seen
2. do indirectly describe the camera angles and movement iN a clever/creative script way by not being the director (BE INSTEAD THE STORY BOARD ARTIST)
3. write to put pressure on the SFX department to create a masterpiece action scene
4. in your main action scenes - make sure you have at least 3 things happening at the same time
5. read it loud - make THE ACTION SCENES fly, make it breathtaking, make it WOW

One of coolest thickly atmospheric engaging and passionate script ever written is this one:

Gladiator (2000 film) - Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gladiator_(2000_film)
"Screenplay. Gladiator was based on an original pitch by David Franzoni, who wrote the first draft. Franzoni was given a three-picture deal with DreamWorks as writer and co-producer on the strength of his previous work, Steven Spielberg's Amistad, which helped establish the reputation of DreamWorks."

Here is an analysis of it that will make you want to re-read the script and study it comprehensively (it will change your life and writing skills forever):

DO IT NOW.
READ IT NOW.
STUDY IT NOW.

Who should you take out for lunch ?
Whose lives should you study?
Whose work should you study?

CINEMATOGRAPHERS.
YES.
CINEMATOGRAPHERS.
THAT'S WHO.

Before CINEMATOGRAPHERS come to the set, they work laboriously TO DETAIL THE finest details via PRE-PRODUCTION.
Yes they break down the script in METICULOUS DETAILS.

THEY BREAK DOWN THE SCRIPT.

So make friends with CINEMATOGRAPHERS.
ATTEND THEIR SEMINARS
ATTEND THEIR CONFERENCES.
READ THEIR BOOKS.
VOLUNTEER TO WORK WITH THEM ON THEIR PRE-PRODUCTION STAGES.

By doing so , you will learn why a script must be concise, lean, engaging and FORMATTED LIKE A MASTERPIECE.

Script Oracle View This Topic Game Of Thrones - best TV writing ever and learning how not to be BORING!!

When writing for TV , it is important NOT TO think too much about plot-holes.

Write with your HEART.

All TV script got plot-holes.
Plot-holes create exciting scenes.
Plot-holes make things more visceral.
Plot-holes makes the episode move faster.

Were there plot-holes in LAST WEEK GAME OF THRONES.
YES, but it does not affect the show's brilliance.

Here are the plot-holes in last the episode -

Script Oracle View This Topic Game Of Thrones - best TV writing ever and learning how not to be BORING!!

Yes, GAME OF THRONES got lots of cool action.

Why is the show so popular?

EASY.

Masterful action and story AND LOTS OF STYLE:

1.the ACTION -->>> SUPER cool with powerful poster-like striking images

2. mature story >> attracts the NEW GENERATION with a super cinematic-serious
comic-book slick fight choreography build up

3. funny, philosophical, political drama between the actions (to catch your breath)

4. dark themes are very popular with the new generation, THE DARKER THE BETTER

5. flawless SFX - Yes, THOSE DRAGONS (so perfect, can't see one mistake)____>> PERFECT. PERFECT. FLAWLESS. FLAWLESS.

6. scary (not for the horror), because the good guys can die anytime

7. EVERYONE IS USING THE WORD "COOL" TO DESCRIBE THE ACTION IN GAME OF THRONES

8. full of sexy actresses (actors) , teasing ___>> until one full love making scene... coming soon?

*****do you have cool action and jokes in your scripts ?

******or are you just adding boring one dimensional action and cardboard characters ?

GAME OF THRONES ACTION -->>>>>> PERFECT. PERFECT. PERFECT.

Script Oracle View This Topic Game Of Thrones - best TV writing ever and learning how not to be BORING!!

This is what the writer said:

"“Nothing bores me more than books where you read two pages and you know exactly how it’s going to come out. I want twists and turns that surprise me, characters that have a difficult time and that I don’t know if they’re going to live or die.”
—George R. R. Martin

Well, this applies to TV scripts too (adaptations) or original spec pilots with at least 10 episodes.

George R.R. Martin’s grand saga is beyond unpredictable. Why is that?

The world has never SEEN anything like this since Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

GOT is crazy, exciting and beyond expectations.

Bad guys winning sooooo much. And lots of crazy things happen.

CRAZY.

So, are you learning HOW to write better by watching GOT?

Why do you like the show?

Do you write TV shows or novels like GOT?

Do you want to remain a conservative writer. OR GO CRAZY LIKE GAME OF THRONES.

Go crazy.

Learn from GOT. Watch and make notes and study the "roller-coaster" effect of keeping the reader in suspense.

Are the writers respecting the Joseph Campbell Hero’s Journey or making it more flexible?

Let's discuss.

Read these books. It's your job to make their teachings more flexible and turn their concepts upside down and sideways and mix them up.

READ BOTH BOOKS:

*****Joseph Campbell - The Hero with a Thousand Faces
*****Christopher Vogler - The Writer’s Journey

AGAIN, READ BOTH BOOKS NOW.

Also, read this Hero’s Journey comic strip version by Ryan Dunlavey !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TAKE the archetype of the classic hero and mix up the stages.

Can you take the mechanics and complex details of the monomyth model ( Departure, Initiation, and Return) and MIX it up?

GO FOR IT.

It is okay to write a minimalist spec script.

But sometimes you want(need) to write a spec script that is so atmospheric

Screenwriting and marketing.
Hmmm.
This is what some spec script specialists do -
*** market everyday for 2 or three hours
1. query producers, directors, actors, cinematographers, actresses , assistant directors etc (each letter much be unique)
2. make cold calls, eg. Independent film companies
3. make a list of production companies (their movies you like), create a database
4. help other writers
5. volunteer to work on movie sets and pre-production projects
6. enter script contests
7. find a script coach
8. rewrite until the cow comes home
9. practice your pitch everyday verbally and get feedback

As you journey into Hollywood.

It's good to learn how a film director thinks.

Here is one example.

Sometimes a director will be interested in your concept or treatment ONLY.

Some of them are leaders and they will take you under their wings.

Here is a great script from famed director Robert Rodriguez.

His script is amazingly visual.

Most directors are dreamers and visualists and visionaries. About all - they are leaders.

So network with upcoming directors. And introduce them your treatment or concept.

And study this script and understand how a film director writes -

When they make the movie about his life

I love studying the Trump character-persona-businessman-President.

one way to write good dialogues is to study how top American and Russian politicians talk

meaning: how they argue, debate and bullshit and exchange insults

watch FOX NEWS and CNN and take notes or tape it (and listen and act it out)

if you have mob script for example: listen how New York politicians talk - trust me, you will learn a lot on dialogue writing and get more ideas and get motivated

AND YOUR SCRIPT WILL BE SPICY AND HOT

Script Oracle View This Topic MY SCRIPT ADVICE TO YOU

My advice to you.
You want your script to impress the pros.
You want your script to start a bidding war.

First , your script must be in top notch shape.

THIS IS WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO:

Get some top Hollywood scripts.
Read them. Read one TOP script per month.
Dissect them line by line.
Analyze each line.
Memorize.
Read parts out LOUD.
Make your own note on the script.
DON'T DEPEND ON PAST NOTES FROM THOSE ON GOOGLE .
THEY MUST BE YOUR OWN NOTES.
TRUST YOUR "FILM INSTINCT" AND WHY YOU LOVE MOVIES!!!!

Do this OFTEN. And your own script will improve effortlessly.
Don't force it. Don't stress. Be cool. And just read and study them at a quiet NATURAL pace.

Just read in a relaxed setting and subconsciously let it work.

SOON YOU WILL SEE MAJOR IMPROVEMENT IN YOUR SCRIPTS.

One way to improve and get closer to realizing your screenwriting DESTINATION.
Is this. Take a bad movie. One you really hated. And write the script you wanted it to be.

For example. I hated all PIRATES movies in the last 20 years.
So I wrote the best PIRATE script. IMO. It's great. LOL.

So far, it got adapted into a comic book and depending on the fan base GROWTH, maybe the GN.

So if you watched a horror movie or a rom com comedy ETC which you detested vehemently.

Take that fillm, dissect it and re-write it.
Make it better. Write from the heart.
Write with soul. MAKE IT FUN.

THINK POSITIVE.
KEEP THE MOTIVATION VIBES.
STICK WITH POSITIVE WRITERS.
WRITE THE MOVIE YOU WOULD ENJOY WATCHING.

When writing action scenes.

Learn to ponder like a Director of Photography and the DIRECTOR.

Learn to support productions – NOT confuse them.

Action FILMS are a COLLABORATIVE THING.

JUST give the indispensable nuts and bolts.

Don’t be too indefinite or too descriptive. Find a balance.

YES, SCREENWRITING IS AN ART. AND SOME MIGHT ARGUE, IT SHOULD BE POETIC.

Think like a director with a budget and think of the possible real-world limitation.

DON’T BE TOO EXPLICIT OR TECHNICAL.

Read these scripts for examples:
ALIEN (first one).
CLOCKWORK ORANGE.
THE MATRIX
A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE.
THE PROPOSITION
3:10 TO YUMA
MAD MAX

And practice and practice and consult until it rocks.

Be unique.

Be fresh.

Write with your heart.

Go back to reason why you LOVE movies.
Write the movie you want to see and write a movie you want the world to see.
It has to fly off the page. Learn, write and market. Repeat with new perspectives until you make a sale.

This game is not over until you sell your spec.

Work hard and dream big.

Ask for help.

Build your team of TOP PERSONAL script consultants/readers.

Work as a TEAM.

When writing your script.

Keep it FUN.

No matter what genre or story.

MAKE IT FUN.

The reason why LOST IN SPACE remake flopped, is because the writer and director did not make it FUN, like the original.
The reason why the new STAR WARS remake are average, is because it was not as FUN as the originals.

The new movie THE MUMMY is getting epic negative reviews because the writer & director did not make it FUN.

MAKE the STORY FUN.

eg of fun scripts/movies - GUARDIAN OF THE GALAXY, PULP FICTION, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, ROMANCING THE STONES, AVATAR, JACKIE CHAN MOVIES, DEADPOOL, WANTED, THE FIRST SPIDERMAN, THE FIRST SUPERMAN, TIME BANDITS, THE ADVENTURES OF BARRY MAUCHAUSEN, SCREAM...

NO MATTER WHAT YOU WRITE. MAKE IT A FUN READ. EVEN IF IT'S BATMAN VS SUPERMAN.

The real reason why WONDER WOMAN is great is because

Script Oracle View This Topic Script Advice! Wonder Woman, Script , Movie, lesson learned

Lesson to learn.
It's not a script masterpiece.
But Hollywood does not want a script masterpiece.
They want a script (when analyzed) (in a beat sheet): it works.
Wonder Woman the script works because
the template of the script is based on
an above average love story between Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and Chris Pine (Steve Trevor) (is not a pure love story like LOVE STORY or R & J ) -
but truly (only the 3rd act romance that is memorable).

Without the love story. This movie is nothing.
Gal Gadot is a complicated non-cliche romantic character.
She has the best smile in Hollywood.

So, when writing , don't give us the last FANTASTIC FOUR.
PURE KAKA.

Give us a love story. Give us the COMIC BOOK version adaptation of the best love story in the world.

The latest BUZZ (Gal Gadot might win best actress).
And the female director might win best director.
At the next Oscars.

Here's hoping. One day some screenwriter will give us the greatest 100% comic book adaptation sexy love story - Poison Ivy and the Riddler.
Or Bat-girl and Batman or Superman in love with Black Widow. Or Cat-woman in love with the Penguin or The Crow or The Black Canary in love with Robin.

There ARE reasons for this .

Never make you script boring.

Even if you have to create your own comic book characters.
Create exciting super heroes and heroines and villains.

Does the main characters and villains from Silence of the Lamb and Pulp Fiction and Avatar and Titanic and Bettlejuice and Edward Scissors Hand and Platoon and World War Z and all of Tarantino and Guy Ritchie and Tim Burton films and Jackie Chan films and The Sopranos and The Big Bank Theory and Top Guns and Mission Impossible and Speed act like advanced comic book characters?

I just went to rottentomatoes and found out the this weekend WONDER WOMAN
got raved reviews. Top action movie for 2017.
They are saying it's pure graceful/kinetic action over noisy summer movies.

This one got LOTS of sentimental scenes with LOTS OF SMARTS.

What can be learned from this?

Well, watch the movie first.
Come home and write the "beat sheet" for it.
And then write the "outline" for it.
Pay attention to the first 10 minute of the movie - how it gets your attention!!!!
And then the remaining exciting 1/2 hour - hypnotic.

Secondly, for practice - study why the audience never got bored.

Then draw a graph documenting - smart action vs the heroine journey vs the special effects dosage.

Have fun watching. And most of all - learn about screenwriting/film-making while watching movies.

Do you want seamless flow from scenes to scenes? Then, print your script. And edit, edit, edit on paper with a PEN.

There is a big difference between editing on paper and editing on a monitor.

Over the years this is the best advice I got from Hollywood on screenwriting.

1 don't think your script is good, it's not, it takes lots lots of practice
2 if you think you are a smart dialog writer, you're not, it takes lots lots lots of practice
3 don't write the next flop like KING OF EGYPT
4 don't rent a beach house and think you will be able to write the next STAR WARS there
5 don't just write, live life with a sweet and sour bowl of misery and happiness and lots of pepper
6 compare your script to those produced and study the variance, do a graph and study how each sentence is masterfully composed and how the script is an exciting read/page turner
7 learn how to pace the whole script like a song composer eg. Quincy Jones
8 write cool scenes with passion/vim and salt and vinegar
9. stage cool action/give us something we haven't seen
10 don't write abcd scripts , write bcad scripts
11 watch PASSION AND STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE AND THE EXORCIST AND CASABLANCA AND THE MATRIX AND KING KONG AND LION KING AND SPIDERMAN (FIRST) AND HITCHCOCK AND TERMINATOR. OVER AND OVER. LEARN. DRAW A SCRIPT GRAPH.
12. compare your script to the greats and just imagine if they read your script, what would they say?
13. this is the Olympics, compete with the best
14. learn, practice and go for it, when your are ready
15. if you don't make it, practice and find mentors and a good coach
16 one day you will make it

Thanks for your time.
