The AFF Conference in Austin is Oct. 16-19 this next month. Anyone interested in attending? The panelists look great.

The conference badge is $350, so it ain't cheap. The hotels are always expensive in downtown Austin. The Holiday Inn is down to $125/day and the Driskill is at $195 and the Mariott is $154 (be sure to get a room away from the main drag, as it becomes a drag strip for the college kids from 2:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m.) I will be driving, but I only have a Mustang for seating up to three as a shuttle car. I will book something as inexpensive as possible if I can swing the costs.
Has anyone done the AFF conference before?

I attended the first 10 years of the contest's existence. I stayed at various locations but found that staying within easy walking distance (Driskil, Omni, Stephen Austin) of the conference was the way to go. Walking back to the hotel in the middle of the night was not fun and it was tiring. You save money but you miss out on activities. Even driving was a pain (parking is time consuming).
I would suggest rooming with someone if you want to cut costs. I roomed with 2 different people on 2 different occassions. I didn't know these people prior to moving in and had a great time. You save money and you have someone to go to events with if you don't like going to things alone.

Hi everyone,
I wrote this Austin article for a screenwriting website and Frederick posted it here.

I'll be driving in from Houston for the conference. Went once a few years ago when I first started writing. I wasn't really equipped to get the full benefit, I'm looking forward to it this year -- such a terrific conference!
