Topic: FYI ~~ Nicholl Fellowships

Author: Dan Gomez Posted: 07/28/09 05:44 PM

They're sending out e-mails to people that didn't make it.

"Now that scores have been tallied for all 6,380 entries, we have to inform too many writers of scripts featuring compelling stories, intriguing characters and excellent craft that they have not advanced into the next round. Regrettably, xxxxxx was not one of the 321 entries selected as a Quarterfinalist in the 2009 Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting."

WOO HOO! I got eliminated! Man, this is so cool.

Author: Terry Frazier Posted: 07/28/09 06:09 PM

I went down in flames... twice!

Author: Robert Ward Posted: 07/28/09 06:15 PM

I got knocked out like my grandma boxing Mike Tyson.

At least I got a top-15 percent finish to go with my "Dear Robert" letter.

Author: Michael Murphy Posted: 07/28/09 07:15 PM

Double out. Top 15% for one helped the sting... a little.

Author: Nick Stoli Posted: 07/28/09 07:30 PM

Well...I looked in my bag, and sure rock was there. Only thing to do is dusts oneself off and get back to writing!

Best of luck to those still in it!

Author: Mike Souder Posted: 07/28/09 07:33 PM

No dice for me as well. I did get top 15%, but I figured they tell everyone this. Is this not true?

If it's genuine, I guess I'm kinda excited. Top 15% is not too shabby for the second draft of my first screenplay ever.

Author: Nick Stoli Posted: 07/28/09 07:35 PM

Mike...they definitely don't tell everyone they're top 15%

Author: Nick Stoli Posted: 07/28/09 07:35 PM

Mike...they definitely don't tell everyone they're top 15%

Author: Mike Souder Posted: 07/28/09 07:45 PM

Wow... the cynic in me is wrong for once.... and I probably sounded like an ass to those who didn't get it. Sorry everybody.

Author: Bobbette Findley Posted: 07/28/09 08:47 PM

I'm out too. Oh well, back to writing the current screenplay I'm writing.

Author: Irin Evers Posted: 07/28/09 09:27 PM

No luck for me - 0 for 3 (though one received good notes from a reader).

Author: Paul Jaworsky Posted: 07/28/09 10:34 PM

I'm in the loser's club too. Oh well.

Author: John Arends Posted: 07/28/09 11:17 PM

It's feeling a bit lonely all of a sudden. I made the QFs with a based-on-true-events biopic, but hought for sure a bunch of us would be carrying the MB flag onward, with Irin leading the pack... Astonishing oversight, there...and a tough reminder just how subjective this contest biz can be...

Author: amanda costa Posted: 07/28/09 11:18 PM

me out too.

groupie got a nice note saying it got two positive reads and some statistic about it's placing that i am not sure what it means but augustine didn't get any such comment so i will be happy one script got some winks.

best of luck to any moviebyter that got in. : )

Author: Bobbette Findley Posted: 07/28/09 11:19 PM

Congratulations, John!!!! And don't feel lonely, I'm glad you made it.

Author: Tom Bragg Posted: 07/28/09 11:27 PM

Congrats, John! Not an easy one to make. I was 0 for 2. Good Luck.

Author: Robert Ward Posted: 07/28/09 11:38 PM

That's great John! Congratulations!

Author: Yvonne Mazzone Posted: 07/29/09 12:36 AM

Hey gang,

Pat Timothy Smith on the back.

Dear Timothy,

Congratulations! You have advanced into the Quarterfinal Round of the 2009 Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting. In so doing, Final Status is one of only 321 entries to survive the First Round.

If he won't toot his own horn I'll do it for him. He is a MB High student.

Yea, Timothy Jay Smith.

it's all good

Author: Julia Kubik Posted: 07/29/09 01:07 AM

No joy here, except for John Arends, and a pat on the back for some kid named T. J. Smith. Congrats guys.

Author: Irin Evers Posted: 07/29/09 10:43 AM

Awesome John - congrats! And a pat to Timothy too!

Author: Heather Hughes Posted: 07/29/09 11:06 AM

John! Great work and well deserved.

Author: John Arends Posted: 07/29/09 11:18 AM

Thanks, guys. Feeling very lucky 'bout this one, and just enjoying the here and now part of it.

Author: Karen Barnett Posted: 07/29/09 05:05 PM

You're a class act, John. Very proud and happy for you!!

Author: Paula Smith Posted: 07/29/09 05:48 PM

I didn't enter this year, but I checked to see the news.

I noticed that Yvonne congratulated a Timothy Smith who doesn't seem to post here and is getting his mail. No surprise here.

Author: d. santiago Posted: 07/29/09 06:46 PM

Add me to the pile on of "0 for 2".

Congrats John! My understanding is that a lot of producers read the QF's just because you made it this far out of 6,300 +. Good luck!

Author: Yvonne Mazzone Posted: 07/29/09 07:46 PM

What does that mean miss lady?

He ain't me and I ain't him.

Author: Yvonne Mazzone Posted: 07/29/09 08:33 PM

If I got this right Paula you think I'm him?

Well for crying out loud. I congrat someone who doesn't visit this landmine bulletin board and you assume something like that.

A lot of folks on this site don't post on this board. Check the names of the scripts on the pro service. The majority of those people do not post on this board. I would assume they have other things to do or know it all already or afraid they might offend.

If I must explain to you Paula, here it goes. When I first came to MB back in 2007 Tim cussed me out over my logline quite literally tore me a new awhole. He's done that to someone else cause there was a thread named Who's Timothy Smith.

We've emailed each other and become friends, you know what a friend is don't you Paula?

He emailed me this nichol thing cause he said he just had to tell somebody. I figured I'd let the board know that he was in the running. Well excuse the hell out of me Miss Thang for wanting to give the man his props.

I hope you can see why not very many new people or old people bother to come to this board. If my memory serves me right I got jumped by board members myself because I didn't go along with the pack mentality.

What you've done to this Harvey person is a disgrace. I still don't know what he's done to you's to make you attack him that way.

My, My, My. Can't we all just get along?

If you haven't noticed Paula it's the same people on this board over and over and over again. Holy smoking hay zues.

There does that clear me of any shenanigans Miss Lady

I only tried this contest once, a long time ago. Live and learn. I may try again if I ever think I've written a contender for an Academy Award.

Author: Janet Hogate Posted: 07/30/09 12:32 PM

Congrats. John A and Evie's friend. Making Nicholl's quarterfinals is really something. Goodluck you guys.

Author: Poetist Soul Posted: 07/31/09 03:36 AM

I'm out. I didn't write Oscar caliber work, just what I thought was a grown-up rom-com.

Congrats to, John and the folks who made the quarter finals.

Author: Timothy Jay Smith Posted: 07/31/09 05:39 PM

I'm alive and well and do exist. Thanks to everyone for their wishes for success. Ditto on my part to everyone else who made the quarterfinals. And please, don't beat up on my friend Evie!
