Topic: Page Notification?
Author: Lana Rory
Posted: 07/01/11 10:29 AM
Hi there, I was wondering if any knew whether Page was going to let people know if they passed the first round. I noticed that last year a notification went out June 30. Did that happen? Just curious. Hoping there's still a chance!

Hi Lana,
The best was to ascertain such information is, well, check with the contest's web page. It's rare (or never) that such information is not posted -- if, in fact, finalists, etc., have been announced. (Why wouldn't a contest post this information on its web page?)
I'll save you the trouble this time. Quarterfinalists will be announced, July 15.

Lana. Zoe over at Page posted on facebook that emails would be going out about 6th-8th July to let you know if you got past first round. Good luck.

Thanks, June. So helpful. There's still hope!

Timothy--thanks for the info as well. Didn't mean to overlook you!

Of course there's still hope, Lana! It doesn't end or begin with Page. Good luck, and never get discouraged. Tim

Tim--you are too sweet! Thanks for the encouragement. I'm new to this game so any little jolt of goodness helps. I made the semis of Storypros last month which was a shocker so I just keep tweaking and revising--and hoping. Do you have one in Page?

7 days early?!
Wow! I've never heard of a contest announcing early before their scheduled date. Kudos to PAGE for that.
I guess I've become accustomed to being late as the norm.

They are still doing the QF results on the 15th of July. It's the email for the writers who got through round one that should be going out on 6th-8th July. I'm only going by what I read on the Page facebook. here's hoping we get an email in the next couple of days!

Now that sounds like the norm. :)
Good luck all!

Some good news. Don't despair if you received the email from Page last night about "this is for those of you who didn't make it to round 2". Just read a post from Zoe that the email went to everyone on the database--a pre-emptive strike of sorts. Confused everyone. Real notification is Friday, July 8th. We live to see another day... Good luck to all.

You got an "unfortunately" from PAGE? I thought they were only sending notes to the ones in the top 25% - perhaps I am confused.

Ken, see Lana's message above yours. I thought the same thing for a moment, but then I read closer and realized it was a general message for everyone, aimed at whoever will not make it through (which is yet to be revealed).
So there's still hope, Ken.

Are you guys talking about "Logline"? I had to read it twice to make sure. And yes, it was a general letter.

Interesting. I was sure that meant my submission had been shot down on the first read. That did just happen to me with Script Pipeline on the same script, same draft. I wrote that script while taking Hal Croasmun's "ProSeries" course # 31 for about eight months, and I thought it was ironic that THAT would be my FIRST submission of the three I've made to PAGE that DIDN'T make it to quarterfinalist. I guess we'll soon see if that's true. If so, ironic! Though it was a first draft, so were my earlier submissions which advanced.

Well, thanks guys, I guess I will keep my fingers crossed and just wait for the 15th. This is the first comp I actually attempted (after many, many, rewrites!) and I entered 3 of them. CWA gave me a pretty high score, so I thought maybe I would have a chance in Page, but I was mostly interested in the feedback portion (until I saw the cost!) But the Insider to Hollywood document was VERY informative and useful. I'll keep my chin up and move along!! Thanks!

Congrats everyone! Irin and I were emailing about the high rate of success of this bunch. Only 25% advance yet this group must be boasting a very high percentage. I know not everyone advanced, but I saw a number of folks were hitting at 100%. I went three for four (interestingly, the one I thought was the strongest and has done well elsewhere did not advance!)....but I'll bet as a group, we're in the 70-80 percent range. Unfortunately we'll (or I'll) be dropping like flies in the coming weeks as it gets really tough!! Had a semifinalist last year...would be cool to repeat. Good luck everyone....Steve

Well... Make that 100% minus one. I entered one script and did not receive an "advancement" e-mail. I was surprised since an early draft of it made the Quarter Finals last year. Such is life. Good luck all.

A little tidbit to share. Zoe from PAGE just posted that all tallying is complete and Quarter-finalist emails are being sent by early afternoon PST (West Coast). Good luck all!
Author: Matthew Gilleece
Posted: 07/15/11 03:32 PM
They also said something else, which I may have missed before - those of us who were notified that we had made it past the first round are not necessarily quarterfinalists.
Second round = top 25%, QFs = top 10%
So we still have to wait for QF announcement (coming within a half hour - 3:30 pm ET right now).
Am I the only that didn't catch that distinction?
Good luck to all!

Congrats Irin and everyone else who advanced. I saw Heather and Kate made quarterfinals as well! My short made it through, and coincidentally, yesterday was our first day of filming it. Everything went without a hitch and we were right on schedule. Early detailed planning/scheduling really paid dividends. Second/final day of filming is tomorrow. Cast/crew of 17 and two long days of filming....for a measly 6-page script! Incredible. Good luck making semi's to the MBers that stil remain. Steve

My first year at this - I got two nebulous emails, one of which included the phrase "While I'm very happy for everyone who advances, this message is for those who will not." Bummer, I thought.
So I almost ignored the Friday email announcement of Q-finalists and almost didn't bother looking. Surprise!!
Congrats to my fellow Q-finalists!! Hope lives on.
Since this is my uncle's story, I hope he would be proud.
