Topic: Page Notification?

Author: Lana Rory Posted: 07/01/11 10:29 AM

Hi there, I was wondering if any knew whether Page was going to let people know if they passed the first round. I noticed that last year a notification went out June 30. Did that happen? Just curious. Hoping there's still a chance!

Author: Timothy Jay Smith Posted: 07/01/11 11:23 AM

Hi Lana,

The best was to ascertain such information is, well, check with the contest's web page. It's rare (or never) that such information is not posted -- if, in fact, finalists, etc., have been announced. (Why wouldn't a contest post this information on its web page?)

I'll save you the trouble this time. Quarterfinalists will be announced, July 15.

Author: June Escalante Posted: 07/01/11 11:58 AM

Lana. Zoe over at Page posted on facebook that emails would be going out about 6th-8th July to let you know if you got past first round. Good luck.

Author: Lana Rory Posted: 07/01/11 12:42 PM

Thanks, June. So helpful. There's still hope!

Author: Lana Rory Posted: 07/01/11 01:07 PM

Timothy--thanks for the info as well. Didn't mean to overlook you!

Author: Timothy Jay Smith Posted: 07/01/11 04:50 PM

Of course there's still hope, Lana! It doesn't end or begin with Page. Good luck, and never get discouraged. Tim

Author: Lana Rory Posted: 07/01/11 05:21 PM

Tim--you are too sweet! Thanks for the encouragement. I'm new to this game so any little jolt of goodness helps. I made the semis of Storypros last month which was a shocker so I just keep tweaking and revising--and hoping. Do you have one in Page?

Author: d. santiago Posted: 07/05/11 06:16 PM

7 days early?!

Wow! I've never heard of a contest announcing early before their scheduled date. Kudos to PAGE for that.

I guess I've become accustomed to being late as the norm.

Author: June Escalante Posted: 07/05/11 06:42 PM

They are still doing the QF results on the 15th of July. It's the email for the writers who got through round one that should be going out on 6th-8th July. I'm only going by what I read on the Page facebook. here's hoping we get an email in the next couple of days!

Author: d. santiago Posted: 07/06/11 07:46 PM

Now that sounds like the norm. :)

Good luck all!

Author: Lana Rory Posted: 07/07/11 11:50 AM

Some good news. Don't despair if you received the email from Page last night about "this is for those of you who didn't make it to round 2". Just read a post from Zoe that the email went to everyone on the database--a pre-emptive strike of sorts. Confused everyone. Real notification is Friday, July 8th. We live to see another day... Good luck to all.

Author: Ken Glover Posted: 07/07/11 04:05 PM

:( I just got one letter...."unfortunately...." But I am still in the mix for two others!!

Author: michelle bornstein Posted: 07/07/11 04:39 PM

You got an "unfortunately" from PAGE? I thought they were only sending notes to the ones in the top 25% - perhaps I am confused.

Author: Matthew Gilleece Posted: 07/07/11 04:50 PM

Ken, see Lana's message above yours. I thought the same thing for a moment, but then I read closer and realized it was a general message for everyone, aimed at whoever will not make it through (which is yet to be revealed).

So there's still hope, Ken.

Author: d. santiago Posted: 07/07/11 05:00 PM

Are you guys talking about "Logline"? I had to read it twice to make sure. And yes, it was a general letter.

Don

Author: Ron Brassfield Posted: 07/07/11 09:51 PM

Interesting. I was sure that meant my submission had been shot down on the first read. That did just happen to me with Script Pipeline on the same script, same draft. I wrote that script while taking Hal Croasmun's "ProSeries" course # 31 for about eight months, and I thought it was ironic that THAT would be my FIRST submission of the three I've made to PAGE that DIDN'T make it to quarterfinalist. I guess we'll soon see if that's true. If so, ironic! Though it was a first draft, so were my earlier submissions which advanced.

Author: Ken Glover Posted: 07/08/11 08:28 AM

Well, thanks guys, I guess I will keep my fingers crossed and just wait for the 15th. This is the first comp I actually attempted (after many, many, rewrites!) and I entered 3 of them. CWA gave me a pretty high score, so I thought maybe I would have a chance in Page, but I was mostly interested in the feedback portion (until I saw the cost!) But the Insider to Hollywood document was VERY informative and useful. I'll keep my chin up and move along!! Thanks!

Author: Philip Sedgwick Posted: 07/08/11 09:45 PM

Congrats to my MB colleagues who advanced to the next round! Good on ya!

Author: Irin Evers Posted: 07/08/11 09:55 PM

I just got an email that my family adventure script and my short script advanced to the Second Round. Check you email boxes...

Author: Patricia Fox Posted: 07/08/11 10:00 PM

Just found out that both my entries advanced! Congrats everyone!!

Author: Matthew Gilleece Posted: 07/08/11 10:02 PM

Congrats you guys - I got my email, my comedy advanced too!

Author: June Escalante Posted: 07/08/11 10:49 PM

Both my scripts advanced. Congrats everyone, best of luck on July 15th.

Author: Lana Rory Posted: 07/08/11 10:53 PM

I made it through! Yippeeeeeeeee. Congrats all! Also just found out I made the Quarters of Just Effin Entertain Me. It's a good night for The Outliers. Breathe.

Author: Janet Hogate Posted: 07/08/11 11:21 PM

I thought I was out, but I just got an email that says my Corvette Man is in. Yahoo....

Author: Scott Shields Posted: 07/08/11 11:50 PM

Congrats and good luck to all the MBers!

Author: Julia Kubik Posted: 07/09/11 04:07 AM

I'm in, at least until the 15th. Congrats and good luck to us all.

Author: Ken Glover Posted: 07/09/11 12:07 PM

CONGRATS to all the folks who made it through! Good luck in the next round!!

Author: Nathan Goldman Posted: 07/09/11 12:19 PM

Santa Sierra and I are in for a script we collaborated on. She is also in for one of her own. Good luck all!

Author: Marjory Kaptanoglu Posted: 07/09/11 03:22 PM

My three advanced. Congrats and good luck to all!

Author: d. santiago Posted: 07/09/11 04:42 PM

Good luck in the quarters to all those who advanced.

Author: Irin Evers Posted: 07/09/11 09:07 PM

MBers rock, it seems!

Author: Irin Evers Posted: 07/10/11 12:04 AM

Lana-

A friend just told me she saw that I advanced in Effing too! Which is your script?

Author: Irin Evers Posted: 07/10/11 12:05 AM

Now I see The Outliers! Congrats! (Why are scripts with "The" always under "T" in contests?)

Author: Lana Rory Posted: 07/10/11 11:06 AM

Hey Irin, Saw yours, too. Congrats! Julie wrote such a glowing post about you this week. You're ascendant. So great. Linda aka Lana

Author: Irin Evers Posted: 07/10/11 01:40 PM

Thanks!

Author: Ron Brassfield Posted: 07/12/11 09:21 PM

Yeah, my entry did make the 2nd round, too. It's a relief. Now the people in this thread need to put their heads together and collaborate on creating a new TV series. :-)

Author: Steve Hochman Posted: 07/13/11 12:20 PM

Congrats everyone! Irin and I were emailing about the high rate of success of this bunch. Only 25% advance yet this group must be boasting a very high percentage. I know not everyone advanced, but I saw a number of folks were hitting at 100%. I went three for four (interestingly, the one I thought was the strongest and has done well elsewhere did not advance!)....but I'll bet as a group, we're in the 70-80 percent range. Unfortunately we'll (or I'll) be dropping like flies in the coming weeks as it gets really tough!! Had a semifinalist last year...would be cool to repeat. Good luck everyone....Steve

Author: Irin Evers Posted: 07/13/11 03:02 PM

Basically - we rock!

Author: Dana Garrity Posted: 07/14/11 07:16 PM

Well... Make that 100% minus one. I entered one script and did not receive an "advancement" e-mail. I was surprised since an early draft of it made the Quarter Finals last year. Such is life. Good luck all.

Author: Heather Hughes Posted: 07/14/11 08:14 PM

Kate and I advanced for Bride-sided.

Author: Cheryl Miller Posted: 07/14/11 09:45 PM

Just returned home and checked my e-mails and I'm in with an older script. So many MB'ers - love it. Good luck all.

Author: Irin Evers Posted: 07/15/11 12:09 AM

Congrats!

Author: Lana Rory Posted: 07/15/11 12:32 PM

A little tidbit to share. Zoe from PAGE just posted that all tallying is complete and Quarter-finalist emails are being sent by early afternoon PST (West Coast). Good luck all!

Author: Matthew Gilleece Posted: 07/15/11 03:32 PM

They also said something else, which I may have missed before - those of us who were notified that we had made it past the first round are not necessarily quarterfinalists.

Second round = top 25%, QFs = top 10%

So we still have to wait for QF announcement (coming within a half hour - 3:30 pm ET right now).

Am I the only that didn't catch that distinction?

Good luck to all!

Author: Matthew Gilleece Posted: 07/15/11 03:44 PM

QF's are up!!

And I didn't make it. Oh well.

Congrats to all of you who did!!

Author: Patricia Fox Posted: 07/15/11 04:05 PM

Congrats to those who advanced, both mine are now out! : (

Author: Julia Kubik Posted: 07/15/11 04:22 PM

I'm out. Congrats to the some 12 MBers still in. Especially those with two in. Irin and Michael Raymond.

Author: Julia Kubik Posted: 07/15/11 04:26 PM

And T.J. Cimfel with two. Sorry if I missed anyone else. Congrats.

Author: Matt Laughery Posted: 07/15/11 05:16 PM

I'm in for my pilot "For Pay"! Congrats to all!

Author: Michael Scott Posted: 07/15/11 05:50 PM

Forgot I entered, but glad Scared Money made the cut. Best of luck to all.

Author: June Escalante Posted: 07/15/11 05:59 PM

I'm in with "The Lodger". Congrats to everyone who made the cut, and best of luck on August 15th.

Author: Patricia Fox Posted: 07/15/11 06:09 PM

Made it through with The Outliers. Congrats fellow MB-ers! I'm in a happy state of shock right now.

Author: Janet Hogate Posted: 07/15/11 06:36 PM

Congrats. June E, Irin, TJ, Susan R, Michael R and Michael S. OMG, I feel like Im handing out roses on the "Bachlorette". Anyway, goodluck on the next round!

Author: Janet Hogate Posted: 07/15/11 06:39 PM

Sorry Lana R. A ROSE for you too. Good luck!

Author: Lana Rory Posted: 07/15/11 06:44 PM

It's clenched ever-so-gently between my teeth... thx!

Author: Irin Evers Posted: 07/15/11 08:59 PM

Thanks! Yes - my new family adventure and a short script advanced.

Congrats to everyone else who advanced. Hopefully MBers keep going to the end!

Author: Ron Brassfield Posted: 07/15/11 10:09 PM

My entry got cut.

Author: Steve Hochman Posted: 07/16/11 08:37 AM

Congrats Irin and everyone else who advanced. I saw Heather and Kate made quarterfinals as well! My short made it through, and coincidentally, yesterday was our first day of filming it. Everything went without a hitch and we were right on schedule. Early detailed planning/scheduling really paid dividends. Second/final day of filming is tomorrow. Cast/crew of 17 and two long days of filming....for a measly 6-page script! Incredible. Good luck making semi's to the MBers that stil remain. Steve

Author: Robert Watson Posted: 07/16/11 10:43 AM

Congratulations, everybody! Good luck.

Author: Irin Evers Posted: 07/16/11 01:02 PM

Hope the shoot continues to go well, Steve!

Author: Marjory Kaptanoglu Posted: 07/16/11 03:41 PM

My thriller, The Precipice, made the qf's. Congrats to all! Steve, so happy to see that Whacked! made it and that you are currently filming it!

Author: Edward Rathje Posted: 07/17/11 03:54 PM

My first year at this - I got two nebulous emails, one of which included the phrase "While I'm very happy for everyone who advances, this message is for those who will not." Bummer, I thought.

So I almost ignored the Friday email announcement of Q-finalists and almost didn't bother looking. Surprise!!

Congrats to my fellow Q-finalists!! Hope lives on.

Since this is my uncle's story, I hope he would be proud.

Thanks Heather! It was a blast to film!

See you in Austin? I guess we're all waiting to see if we advanced before commiting. Steve P.S. Tell Kate I said hey.

Author: Heather Hughes Posted: 07/21/11 12:48 AM

Hey Steve,

Sadly, I can't go to Austin this year. I'm really not happy about it, but it can't be helped.

I'll tell Kate hello from you and hope to see you soon. Come up to Seattle and visit.
