MIRDAD, A LIGHTHOUSE AND A HAVEN

I was born in 1972 in Brazil, and I have been interested in films since I was a teenager. My first job was at a video rental store when I was 14, and at that time I started to see movies by Carlos Saura, Fellini, John Huston, Antonioni, Kubrick, Billy Wilder, and other great directors, and even not having a full understanding of these movies, I used to like them a lot.

My interest in the area kept growing, and when I was 18 (1991), I was admitted to the University of Sao Paulo Film School, which was the best in my native country, Brazil.

I was born in 1972 in Brazil, and I have been interested in films since I was a teenager. My first job was at a video rental store when I was 14, and at that time I started to see movies by Carlos Saura, Fellini, John Huston, Antonioni, Kubrick, Billy Wilder, and other great directors, and even not having a full understanding of these movies, I used to like them a lot.

My interest in the area kept growing, and when I was 18 (1991), I was admitted to the University of Sao Paulo Film School, which was the best in my native country, Brazil. Although I liked the course very much, due to some problems I had at the time, I was forced to abandon it in the third year, and returned to my home town.

Even though I worked outside of the movie industry for nearly 28 years, I must admit that I have always considered returning to the field that is the most important passion of my life.

During all these years I have seen several hundred films (and most of its extras), read books, listened to soundtracks, and many other activities related to cinema.

So, at the end of 2009, I started the journey of trying to make my dream come true.

Since then I’ve already read dozens of scripts, several books, website articles, and forums about screenwriting; some books about filmmaking techniques, film editing, cinematography, and film directing.

I have been working on the script since January of 2010, and with a shot list since September of 2010. In other words, I have spent literally dozens of thousands of hours writing and rewriting them; visualizing the scenes; meditating about several aspects of the script; considering the feedback received through many script contests; listening to the dialogue and a possible soundtrack, and so on, which I think gave me excellent ideas about how this movie should be done to achieve success.

Another very important fact is that I have been interested in spiritual matters since I was 19, which led me to read hundreds of books from several religions, to attend many years of courses and lectures about these issues, and, more importantly, to really try to live my life according to these spiritual teachings, which I think was essential to making me ready to work on a project of this kind.
