A descendant of Indian indentured laborers (‘minimally remunerated slaves’) and a member of a minority, marginalized brown community, he overcame the shackles of apartheid and worse, the Hindu caste system, to become a conventionally-published author of fiction and nonfiction while also functioning as a screenwriter, screenplay consultant, senior editor, and peer-review expert. He is an independent law advisor and screen consultant to a local multimedia company and was instrumental in the production of a US-based war thriller, Thirst, aka Desert Storm and Desert Fury in global distribution since 2018.

Qualifications: JD; LLM; MFA – Creative Writing (with distinction); LLB; BProc (Attorney’s Admission degree); and BA. Diplomas: Legislative Drafting; Medicine & Law; Photography; and Journalism. He has completed 32 short courses in continuing professional development; is an active member of multiple organizations; maintains an up-to-date conventional and digital library; and is a contributor to conferences. As an Officer of the Court, Anirood’s’ work is necessarily of the highest professional and moral ethics. He writes fiction, nonfiction, and screenplays for a living (fulltime) since 2007, alongside his on-demand (part-time) role as a Counselor-at-Law.

Anirood’s writing had its genesis in his childhood love of reading fiction. In primary school, he communicated by post through handwritten letters to pen friends in Britain, Europe, and Scandinavia. Success followed as a runner-up in the Nadine Gordimer Short Story Awards. A full-time literary practice commenced in 2007, anchored in a career as a civil engineer, urban developer, project manager, and public administrative executive. As senior Counsel, Anirood undertakes ‘crisis management’ solving clients’ complex problems in minimum time under circumstances where a smart representative may be the only safegaurd against a death sentence, imprisonment, or bankruptcy. The outcome of a case is often contingent on one’s qualifications, experience, and readiness. Hence, an ability to write factually, convincingly, and persuasively is essential since success is largely based on the formula: 90 per cent preparation and 10 per cent delivery. Words, used efficiently, give credence to the cliché, “The pen is mightier than the sword.”

Over the past two decades, Anirood wrote 56 law-based and policy-type approved documents; 39 conference papers, chapters in books, and journal articles; published five history books; and eight short stories, with 46 unpublished work (see List in Resume, available on request). For relaxation, he enjoys the cinema, reading fiction, ancient history, watching football and cricket.
