TEXT ME

MAN'S BEST FRIEND IS NOT A DOG, IT'S A CELL PHONE.

Text Me is a coming of age teenage comedy about an underdog named Grant Chambers. Grant is a socially awkward teenager trying to navigate the perils of adolescence, while living in the shadow of his late father; whom was a star athlete at the very high school he attends. Grant feels he is not worthy to be his father’s son because, he is not an athlete, not popular, has few friends, and is the object of harassment by the star quarterback of the high school. To make matters even worse, he has a crush on the same girl that the star quarterback is interested in.

Grant’s life and his self-worth is about to change when he acquires a new cell phone. Immediately, the cell phone seems to take on a life all its own by communicating with him via text messages. Grant doesn’t inform anyone about the cell phone’s apparent ability to communicate with him. Instead, he decides to take the phone back to the mall where he purchased it. When he arrives at the mall, the kiosk; where he bought the phone, is gone. Bewildered and frustrated about the phone and its mysterious messages; Grant attempts to get rid of the phone by throwing it away. The following day, Grant receives a package in the mail; it’s the cell phone.

Grant can’t believe this is happening to him. Reluctantly, he starts to respond to the strange device, which starts to help him in a series of comedic episodes to navigate the pitfalls of growing up while helping to establish Grant’s sense of confidence and self-esteem. He does not fully understand how the phone can do the things it does, but he will come to learn the true significance of the cell phone and its mysterious messenger.

Writer’s Statement

(Imagine the impossible, dream the impossible, and always believe in the impossible.)

I grew up in Dayton, Ohio, United States of America. I am one of three siblings and in fact, I have an identical twin brother. I was born with a medical disability, but I never allowed my disability to define who I am. Growing up I loved hanging out with my friends, family, and just getting into all sorts of crazy nonsense. These childhood memories and struggles have shaped my imagination and gave me focus on becoming a writer.
