Objective

Screenwriting Battle is a screenwriting competition for screenwriters, by screenwriters. On November 4th, write a 10 page script in under four days. Top 8 scripts are judged by Professional Screenwriters including Diane Drake (WHAT WOMEN WANT, starring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt, and ONLY YOU, starring Robert Downey Jr.) Only $20 (including tax) to join. How are the top 8 scripts decided? YOU are also a judge. Every participant judges scripts in different genres than their own. The four different genre winners split the CASH prize pool. It's a fun way to spend an extended weekend writing, and a great exercise to read and judge other screenplays. Join today!

Deadline/Entry Fees

Expired. Previous Deadline: 11/04/2021

Notification: November 23, 2021

Rules

Contest Starts (Nov 4, 11:59PM EST): Receive prompts and start writing. You have 4 days to write a 10 page script, but only 2 days to redraw your prompts. After 2 days of writing, your prompts will be...

Locked-In (Nov 6, 11:59PM EST): You can no longer redraw your prompts, and can now submit your screenplay anytime from now until the deadline...

Submit Script Deadline (Nov 8, 11:59PM EST): It has now been 4 days since the contest has started. You must submit your screenplay before this time and date.

**Note: Here, the scripts are put into pools of 6 of the same genre. We are now in The Pool stage. Your script is only competing with scripts in your same pool and will be judged against every script in your pool at least once.

Read, Give Feedback, and Judge (Nov 9, 11:59PM EST): Receive two scripts from different genres than your own. Read both, provide feedback for both, and choose a winner of the "arbitration" between the two scripts. You do that process a total of 3 times (6 scripts total). After completing all three arbitrations, choose the best script out of your selected winners (+0.5 bonus points), and the best script out of your selected losers (+0.25 bonus points).

Deadline to Complete Arbitrations (Nov 14, 11:59PM EST): Your 3 arbitrations must be complete by this date.

The Pool Results and Feedback (Nov 15, 11:59PM EST): Everyone that completed their arbitrations receives feedback from their peers. Each script receives a score based on { (# of Wins + Bonus Points) / # of Arbitrations Your Script Participated In } -- Note: It looks more complicated than it is. Essentially it's a ratio between how many times you won over how many times you could have won. As in... what's your win rate? The script with the highest win rate in their pool moves on to The War.

The War (Nov 16, 11:59PM EST): Top scripts from each pool compete in a best-of-three single elimination tournament against random scripts in their same genre. Participants who were knocked out of the contest in the pool stage can choose to judge The War in exchange for coins. The tournament stops when there are 8 scripts left (2 from each genre).

Professional Judging (approx. Nov 21): Each of our four industry screenwriters complete three arbitrations, meaning they read, provide feedback, and judge six of the eight scripts. Best-of-three, a winner is chosen from each genre. Four winners!!

Winners Announced (Nov 23, 11:59PM EST): The Four Winners are announced, trophies and coins are given out, and the Debrief Forums are available...

Debrief: Choose to share your script to fellow participants with a click-of-a-button. This time, it will not be anonymous. Comment, reply, and give feedback to each other.
