Objective

The Middlebury Script Lab invites applications for its fellowships.

Our tuition-free program provides emerging screenwriters a place to focus intensely on their craft with the support of accomplished industry professionals.

Six emerging screenwriters — the Fellows — will be invited to spend one week at Middlebury, in the Champlain Valley of Vermont. You will live and work in individual, comfortable rooms and find your inspiration in the crisp Vermont outdoors (town shuttles can take you up the mountain for a ski break!).

Writers, producers, script consultants, and agents — the advisors — will be offering their mentorship in workshops, master classes, and one-on-one conferences. Ample individual time is built into the week’s schedule, allowing fellows to make real progress on their screenplays. Show More

Deadline/Entry Fees

Expired. Previous Deadline: 10/05/2019

Notification: Final notification by December 1st.

Rules

Applicants must be US residents over 18 years of age who have had no more than one feature script produced. Selected applicants must travel to Vermont and participate in all Lab activities for the period of the Lab. Lodging, meals and tuition are free of charge. Participants will receive a travel reimbursement of $300 USD or ticket price (whichever is lower) if they travel by plane to Burlington, VT, or standard mileage reimbursement if they travel by car to the Script Lab location (Ripton, VT).

Awards

This one-week residential lab will bring six emerging writers to the idyllic Bread Loaf campus in Ripton, Vermont.

The Lab offers free room and board, plus mentoring support. It is financed through the Fund for Innovation at Middlebury College. Its goal is to create a screenwriting hub where emerging talent is fostered and mentored free of charge.

The Script Lab aims to discover and promote new writers, especially talented people who have found it difficult to gain entrance in the entertainment industry because of prejudice, socio-economic status, geographical constraints, family situation or other obstacles.
