Tricia Lynch, Greater Cleveland's Film Commission - 216/623-3910
Annetta Marion or Bernadette Gillotta, OIFF - 216/781-1755
The Ohio Independent Film Festival, together with Greater Cleveland's Film
Commission, today announced that Hollywood producers Patrick Markey and Laura
Friedman will judge the final round of submissions to the Ohio Independent
Screenplay Awards. The Best Screenplay Award and Best Northcoast Award
(majority set in Cleveland) will be announced at the Ohio Independent Film
Festival and Market in November. In addition to $1,000 and other prizes,
winning scripts will be submitted to Kimber Wheeler, a literary agent at
Preferred Artists in West Hollywood, and to the literary department at Gold
Marshak Liedtke and Associates in Burbank, California. The Writers Guild of
America East joins as a sponsor of the two awards as a part of their
community outreach effort to support the independent filmmaking community.
Patrick Markey, a native of Ohio, was a producer on The Horse Whisperer, The
Quick and the Dead, The Joy Luck Club and A River Runs Through It. Laura
Friedman is currently Vice President of Development at the Paramount-based
Cort/Madden Company and was a producer on It Takes Two, House Arrest, Foxfire
and Zeus and Roxanne. "We're honored to have people like Patrick, Laura and
Kimber involved in the Ohio Independent Screenplay Awards," said Tricia
Lynch, Vice President of Greater Cleveland's Film Commission. "Together with
the support of organizations like the W.G.A. and Gold Marshak Liedtke, we'll
soon see great Cleveland stories on the silver screen."
The Ohio Independent Screenplay Awards is a program of the Ohio Independent
Film Festival. The program's major sponsor is Greater Cleveland's Film
Commission. Other sponsors include the Writers Guild of America East, IMI
