Contest News
MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Alan Baxter
An interview with screenwriter Alan Baxter regarding the Worldfest - Houston Writing Competition.
Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?A: The title of my script is "Alone In A Crowd."
A teenage boy struggles with his autism as he tries to survive high school life.
The story is told from the unique perspective of an autistic teenager. He lives in a world of chaos created by his heightened awareness of light, movement, and sounds.
A: The Worldfest script competition has been around for years and it seemed well respected. Also, I entered the Moondance Int'l Film Festival and my script placed as a semi-finalist. I am still waiting to hear back from other contests.
Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?A: Overall, the experience was very rewarding. They met their deadlines and I received my award.
Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?A: No feedback.
Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?A: The contest has given my script credibility. So far, I haven't been contacted by anyone, but I am hoping to get the script produced in the near future.
Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?A: I graduated from Chapman University with a BFA in Film and TV Production. I worked as a production assistant on the TV shows "Frasier" and "ER." Currently, I work as an assistant editor on independent feature films and in television.
I have written a feature script and I am working on another short script.
A: I am one of the few, born and raised in LA.
Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?A: I am writing a short script tackling the controversial illegal immigration issue.
