Contest News

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Jonathan Reedholm

An interview with screenwriter Jonathan Reedholm regarding the Worldfest - Houston Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: The script is THE FEAR OF GREEN and it's about terrorists trying to wipe out the world's oil supply. One of the twists is that it is eco-terrorists lead by a guy with a score to settle with the USA. And the good guys are lead by a female Jack Ryan type.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: I entered for two reasons: it is close to Austin where I live and because it has a reputation for launching a lot of careers. I entered an earlier draft in a few contests last year where it was a semi-finalist and honorable mention.

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: Yes to all three questions. The film festival was great. Met a lot of people and made new contacts. I think attending these events it just as important as winning. Plus you couldn't beat the award dinner and yacht sailing the next day.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: One of the judges gave me feedback in private after the awards were given out. But no formal feedback was given.

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: I think so. I used it in a query campaign that has resulted in numerous requests for the script from all three. However, I wouldn't look to this contest to help promote a script like other contests do.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: My background is in Physics and over the years I've done lots of writing in various formats.

I've only been writing screenplays for about two years and have three finished screenplays.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: No. Not yet.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: I'm polishing up my third script using coverage notes I received. Have 6/1 summer contest deadlines to meet!

After that I'm starting an ensemble heist script that I've been researching and jotting ideas down for about a year. All I do know is that if a stop writing, I fail.
