Finalists Announced for Ohio Independent Screenplay Awards
Gearing up for its ninth year of supporting independent filmmakers,
Independent Pictures announces the last round of finalists for the
three screenplay categories. This marks the first year for the
organization's Best Voice of Color Award, which highlights the
writing achievements from a screenwriter whose voice, story and
characters speak to generally marginalized audiences.
BEST VOICE OF COLOR SCREENPLAY FINALISTS
All Rise by Tommy Bryant
Inugami by Rich Figel
Fugitive Slave by Dick Croy & Henry Burke
Diamond Event by Julie Williams
A favorite for screenplay submitters and judges alike, the Best
Northcoast Screenplay Award focuses on stories that are set in
Northern Ohio.
BEST NORTHCOAST SCREENPLAY FINALISTS
Her Majesty's Magician by David Pinzino
Coach Mom by Sharon Felder Roth
Waters of the Heart by Merle Goldberg & William Gerald Hamby
Iron Princes by Patrick Ryan
Finally, the Best Screenplay Award goes to the most overall well-
written and crafted story.
BEST SCREENPLAY FINALISTS
Benevolence by Carla Robinson
The Sun in Your Eyes by Kirk Lindsey & Michael Lind
10 Minutes From Paradise by Janyce Lapore
Five Full Moons by Mary Joy McMachen
One screenplay out of this list of finalists will receive the
professional treatment at Script Mill, the Ohio Independent Film
Festival's annual unstaged reading event. Similar screenplay
readings are commonplace in Los Angeles and New York, and first
brought to Northeast Ohio by the Ohio Independent Film Festival.
This years' festival runs from Saturday, November 2nd to Sunday
November 10th and also includes Director of Photography, documentary
production, and special effects workshops.
Independent Pictures supports emerging media artists and the
exhibition of their films and video projects to a wider audience
through the Ohio Independent Film Festival and other programs such as
the Ohio Independent Screenplay Awards, Script Mill, film training
programs, and workshops.
